I recently ran across a gun of which I was blissfully ignorant, the Ruger Super Wrangler. I don't currently own a SA revolver and at the price point (~$250 street price) I would maybe add one to the stable. Anyone have any experience with the gun? They would also make good Xmas presents for a young shooter.

I’m a big fan of the Single Six. I haven’t tried a Super Wrangler, but I think as an intro to shooting gun it would be first rate.

The quality at its price point is unbeatable. However, not everybody is enamored with its novel mode of operation, specifically with regards to loading/unloading. Ruger took an unorthodox approach to this as opposed to more traditional SA's (like the Single-Six). The procedure with all Wranglers is to simply open the loading gate, and the action locks while the cylinder rotates freely in both directions without any indexing clicks. This makes it a bit of a challenge to align each chamber with the ejector rod.

I bought a standard Wrangler right after they were first introduced (somewhere around summer 2019). I'm not fond of the load/unload function either and much prefer my Single Six that has a more traditional feel. Nevertheless, the little revolver shoots well and has good fit and finish for a gun that cost under $200 at the time of purchase. My friend just bought a Super Wrangler over the summer, but has yet to fire it. I just hope Ruger does not do away with the more refined Single Six. That would be a mistake.

There is a reason Ruger is still making the Single Sixes, as well as the Wrangler line of firearms.

Your intended use helps dictate which one might suit your needs best.

I have a normal Wrangler, which gets varmint dispatching duty around the farm, and it is great for that

Ruger's Wrangler series is a low cost .22 single action. MIM parts and a plain finish. But its a good gun for the money.
The Single Six is a fine revolver, but its expensive. The Wrangler is Ruger's response to the low cost Heritage .22s that have been extremely popular.
The Super Wrangler is just the standard Wrangler with adjustable sights. I have a standard Wrangler and always felt it needed adjustable sights. So I am intrigued.
Right now the Super is only available with a 5.5" barrel. I'm kinda waiting to see if they'll offer it with a 4.5" barrel, which I would prefer.
I can see one of these in my future. ;)

Actually, the Super Wrangler has a steel alloy cylinder frame and the same zinc alloy grip frame as the regular Wrangler. The Wrangler’s cylinder frame is aluminum alloy.

The cylinders on the Super Wrangler are also longer so they cannot be used in the standard Wrangler.

A neat little gun for the money…
