Good friend back in Va. has many, many MGs and assorted cannons. He has friends with single mini guns, they take them near the mountains at an abandoned quarry to shoot them, what a blast.

I saw a Vulcan gun — a 20 mm motorized Gatling gun — demo'd at a GE factory in Burlington, Vermont, in the late 1980s. Very impressive.
The target was a slab of plywood. After a few seconds and a loud, ripping noise, the result was a lot of sawdust. (And a group of guys grinning like little kids!)

That answers the question about the best bear gun.

There are several “ sounds” one can never forget. Remember in RVN hearing both mini guns being fired at night while on guard duty. The last was a converted C-119 with 20 mm’s about 2 miles away. Looked like someone dumping out a grill full of burning charcoal. The first was a “ Puff” 7.62s a little closer. Would dag gone sure not wanted to be below either. We saw results of “ Puff” the next day. Been a good place to plant a garden…..

The sound of any of the above, has to be the scariest and Last thing anyone on the receiving end will ever hear.

Didn’t Jesse “The Mayor” Ventura* think that in Predator?
*Living in Brooklyn Park, he was my mayor before he was MN governor.

Somebody in Ukraine is looking at that video saying, "Sergei! I think I've found the solution to those pesky Iranian drones".
The ZU-23-2 in the following video was pretty darned cool as well. Trouble is I've never seem 23 mm HE ammo at Big 5.

Watching that gun fire at night is the true definition of "hosing them down".
Awesome!!

We used to love going up on deck and watching them test the CIWS. We weren’t allowed anywhere aft of amidships, but it was still very impressive. Particularly at night. It looked like a big laser beam.

For a minute I thought you were talking about Jerry Barnhart's session at our range . It's for SF guys and contract guys that need some training . Usually the range is closed due to the people there don't like being seen . We didn't get the word so me and our Tuesday crew showed up . We went down to get some target boards and there it was . I'm guessing it was Jerry's trailer because it was pretty much full of ammo . Now think , somewhere around 20 SF guys , both rifle and pistol , for 5 days . Wouldn't you say somewhere around $20,00 worth of ammo ?

Impressive! So for close-in drone and missile defense, a ship might have several of these turrets, and what...? A half-million rounds of ammo in storage...?

They make Burton snowboards in that factory now. My son worked there for a few years.

That is over-the-top cool!!
My brother tells of everyone heading up on deck anytime they fired the CWIS.
Not only a solid stream of missile-killing airborne projectiles, but extremly accurate too. (how would they know that?)

I suspect that there is more excitement in the Persian Gulf than we are ever told.

We called that "drill weekend" back in my Huey Gunship (UH-1M) pilot days. The AirCav unit I few in would draw 100-150k rounds of ammo for range weekends 2-3 times a year back in the 1980's.
We only had 6400 rounds on board each time we went down range, and 14 2.75" rockets. Over my career in the Guard I fired off somewhere around 1.5 million rounds of 7.62 and at roughly 3,000 rockets.
The bad part was that the gun sat behind the pilot so we heard the full sound of the guns, and that's why my ears ring constantly to this day.
But it was an honor to serve and would gladly do so again.
