I got my rack grade in today from the FFL. It is a Ithaca frame and Remington Rand rebuild. Actually it looks like it has been rebuilt twice. This gun just feels like it is dripping history when I hold it.

Serial number puts it late 1943. You will see a SA stamp over the trigger guard and it is also stamped ANAD 10 76 over the trigger. This is what makes me think it saw two rebuilds. A nice bonus, for me at least, in the RR slide is the Vietnam era S&W replacement barrel. It is stamped SW on the lug and damn near blinded me when I shined a light up the bore, chrome lined. It came with a Vietnam era Checkmate magazine. Keyes Lot 27 and 13 bakelight grips on it as well.

Really happy with this acquisition.

Some pics.

A couple more pics.

Like it. I have an all original Ithaca 1943 with 126 (first 3 digits) serial number. Like yours the Ordnance mark on the right frame is struck lightly. I have the "cross" stamp on my left side trigger guard. Attached is a picture of the stampings Ithaca used on the trigger guards.

Someone on the CMP forum posted a pic from a book with the Ithaca inspector stamps. Your cross looks to me like it was inspected by Joseph Lisseck. Mine was by William Bean. So..........my pistol was inspected by Mr. Bean (insert British rimshot here).:D

If you don't mind my asking, what was your RNG number? I'm trying to figure out how close they're getting to me.

When I received my 1911 from the previous drawing I immediately took it out to shoot it. That's part of the fun of acquiring these pieces of history.

Thanks for the full list of Ithaca inspection stamps. Another inspection mark on Ithaca frames is the ordnance flaming bomb on the inside of the "channel" (on the frame) underneath the barrel. You might have to use a magnifying glass to see it but it is there on mine. As for shooting it, I would! When I got mine in 2007 it still had the original recoil and firing pin springs from 1943. I replaced them but kept the originals. I shoot mine a couple of times a year.

Enjoy!

Went back and took a look. The flaming bomb is in the dust cover channel at the end closest to the chamber. Missed that when I was checking the first time, thanks.

In the past the CMP forum members kept a running account of the deliveries with their RNG numbers. They may not do that anymore as we are well along in the number of releases, but it was a big deal with the first release. My number came up and the CMP passed me over. That was when COVID closed them down and there was nobody there to process my order. NICS BC expired and they wouldn't run it again I was told. After me begging them they agreed to run it again. After about 18 months from my application I got a service grade RR with a Colt slide.

I think any grade would be a nice pistol. Most of the ones in the first release were Service and Field grades. That's the first rack grade I've seen. Glad you were able to acquire it.

They are still doing that. I updated both that post in the CMP forum and another that had a basic form so you could show the full timeline from sending in the paperwork through all the steps and ending with what brand frame and slide you got. I like this one enough that I may try for another if there is a new round next year.

I was believing that there was only one per customer but checking the website it looks like that changed. I'll go for one more if possible. I'd like a Field grade this time.

I actually carried one while in the Navy and own a few other 1911's.
