Are you sure it is an XL8 and not an over stamped XL3? The 8s were large framed revolvers in .38 and .44. XL3s were small frame and in .22 or .32.

From the picture, your H&A looks like a small frame version.

In the Blue Book your revolver is listed in the section dated 1902-1914.

That's an XL3
The '3' in their stamped marking was very tightly curved at the open ends and looks like an '8' especially on guns with a worn finish.
