Picked up a Colt King Cobra Custom Shop .22
I was at Cabelas in Scarborough last week and stumbled across this King Cobra Target .22 from Colt's custom shop. These had been on my short list since I first heard about them, I had no idea there was a custom shop version.
Any of you Colt guys on here know what the difference is between these and a non custom shop version? The grips are different, rosewood with an inlaid silver Colt but other than that I have no idea the difference. The rubber grip like the standard version has was in the box also. Did a search online but really couldn't find any info on them at all. Only found one more like it on the big auction site but the listing really didn't say much about it either.
Probably paid too much, $1129 plus tax so it was $1193 out the door. The one on the auction site was listed at $1700 and the non Custom shop versions I usually see are around $1000. Figured by the time I put a wood Hogue on one I would have had close to the $1129 asking price.
Also, if any of you guys have one, will DS 10-speed loaders for a 617 work with these? My shooting gear is packed up for a move so I can't test mine out.

That is nice. Nevermind the price. You will go to work tomorrow and make more money.

Not me, I'm retired! My gun buying is coming to an end. (Supposedly!) Except for the Python Combat Elite I just ordered!

Oh man! I'll be looking for one of those tomorrow. Thanks for the post and photo.
ETA: It appears several Cabelas locations have these. I wonder if these weren't exclusives somehow?
Couple more on Gunbroker with $1500 and up starting bids.
The grips are from Eagle - $229.90. You can't buy a standard KC 22lr and add the grips for what you paid.

The only thing I see different is the grip, for that money they should all come with that grip. The 617 speedloaders are too small for the Colt, there is one specifically made for the Colt at Revolver Supply.

A nice looking piece. Is the 4” available in the non PC version? I see it got the 3 vent treatment line the 4” blue Python. A closer look at the checkering is evidence they came from Eagle and not Altamont.

I had an early KC .22, and had problems with misfires, Colt replaced it and the 2nd one would fire out of time and split bullets in half or not advance at all, Colt replaced it again and I didn't accept the 3rd one because when testing the timing at my FFL the cylinder would freely spin just before the hammer was about to drop, it appeared that the hand was going past the ratchet just before firing. I think they are still experimenting how to make them work, the ones I had have the firing pin at 6'oclock hitting on the extractor, now I see they moved it to hit at 7'oclock. IMO it should hit at 12'oclock against the cylinder and not on the extractor. They were all beautiful revolvers and I might get another one if I find one that works.
I saw some nice grips on another forum (copied their pictures), available at Hudson River Valley Customs (I think made by Altamont), I like these best.

Don't kid yourself - I've been saying that since I retired in '02. Bought many since then including a CZ T2 Blue, Korth Mongoose and Smith 27 in the last several weeks. It never stops (and I tried!). You can always back off on other expenditures (food, meds, utilities, etc.).
Think I need an "intervention" but my son and grandsons like guns and refuse to participate, lol.
