Default Bersa-one you never see

At least I hadn't until the other day. I always viewed them as inexpensive pistols from Argentina with alloy frames, something that I just wasn't interested in. The only reason I looked at this one was because of the long barrel. When I picked it up I could tell there wasn't any alloy in this one, it was all steel and I verified it with a magnet. Looking around on the internet, I quickly found that information on these is sparse and that most of these did not come to this country. The info that I did find revealed that there were four models of these; the 223DA, 224DA, 225DA & 226DA with the last digit denoting barrel length. Bersa also built these as single action models with the same model numbers but ending with SA. There were some differences though, the SA mag release is in the grip and there is a crossbolt safety that blocks the trigger(as far as I can tell). The mags are also different as well. The 224,225,226 in both SA & DA models also have threaded barrels, not for a suppressor but for removing the front sight. This allows the slide to be slid off of the barrel. The front sight is indexed so that it can only be seated in one position on the barrel. The nut is then threaded on to hold the sight in place. I think Walther does their PP series target pistols the same way.

Bersa 226DA 22lr target(?) pistol. The last pic I lifted from the internet, it is the model 226SA.

Never been a fan of alloy in any brand revolver or semi-auto. Full steel for me. Cool old gun. Enjoy.

Very underrated guns.

I had a Bersa .380 before they came out with the Thunder models. I traded it for a S&W K frame snub. I probably got the better of the deal but it was an excellent gun and very easy to carry.

That's really cool, it's essentially Bersa's answer to the Walther PP Sport.

Cool gun. I gather you bought it?

My local FFL, who is shall we say discriminating (meaning if a gun stinks he will tell you) thinks highly of Bersa products.

My Bersa .22 Thunder is great little gun. Nice SA/DA trigger, great ergonomics and very reliable IF I feed it CCI Blazer ammo. Remington, Winchester, Federal, or any lower powered ammo doesn't work very well because of the heavy all steel slide. Normally I won't keep a gun if it's not reliable with all ammo but the Thunder is so nice I don't mind.

I've got a Model 223, single action. It has a steel frame. It looks really cool. Mine is a jam-o-matic.

Does your 223 have the original grip release magazine? One thing I noticed while trying to gather information on these pistols is that there are 3-4 different magazines for these.

Starting in 1980, BERSA manufactured all of its steel-framed pistols until it launched the Thunder line.
The weapon you purchased is a very popular model in Argentina, use it with high velocity ammunition to obtain the correct functioning of the weapon.
In Argentina, all pistol shooters of my generation started with a BERSA .22.
Enjoy it.
