Default Body Cams?

I’ve been thinking of getting a body cam.
I’ve been a very active runner for 30+ years, and I’ve had my SC CWP for well over 20 years. Until recently, those two things were largely exclusive of one another. I simply figured that carrying while running was too difficult a hurdle to fully overcome. Unfortunately, I recently had a bad encounter that has changed my life. The carry issue is now solved. But, the experience has caused me to realize that I’ve actually had a number of encounters while running that could’ve gone very bad, more than one of which had resulted in my reporting to police authorities.
I have often found that while my situational awareness, observation, and recall are all pretty good, there was always some detail or another I had missed. Or, I simply needed irrefutable evidence that what I reported was actually factual.

So, I’m thinking of getting a body cam, strictly to use while running.
Any comments or recommendations?

You can use a cell phone to record while you run, plus if you have to call 911, you will have the phone right there.

Yes, that's an idea. I wonder if anyone makes a mount or harness that would work? What about weather (precipitation)?

Yes, they make running/outdoor harnesses, and you can get a weatherproof case that still allows audio/video recording and general use of the phone.

I’m curious as to what method you decided on to carry/conceal firearm?
A belly ban was the first thing I thought of. Or the athletic pants with reinforced waist bands.

Thanks for the replies. Besides having not thought of the cell phone option, as you can see, I was unaware of the options regarding accessories.
As for carry options, as per another question, yes, I am using a belly band with a "sticky" holster. It is very secure.
Once it gets warmer (ie: really hot!), I will probably have to think of some other carry methods!!

Would you be willing to elaborate on the event(s) a bit? I like to think I have some situational awareness, but I know I can improve. Sometimes getting tips from others' learning saves the rest of us from similar troubles.

I used to run a lot. I did it soon after waking, as the criminal urchin population is still mostly sleep. If I were a serious runner and wanted a companion/protection dog, the best answer of which I am aware is a well bred Rhodesian Ridgeback. I have carried a gun while running, but frankly, the better answer is to pick my times and locations better.

Well, this is a small southern town. Most folks are friendly, but there's still some who are simply hostile to runners and cyclists.
The incidents I've had have occurred at all possible hours of the day.
One happened on a nice Friday afternoon around 4pm. I was running on a sidewalk probably 8 feet away from traffic.
A guy just got out of the passenger side of a car, parked on a cross street, and for no reason, ran up behind me, grabbed my shirt collar and started punching me in the back of the head. I luckily had a pepper spray on a key chain in my hand, and whipped my arm around and blasted him in the eyes. That was the end of that! There was a ridiculous "my word against his word" aspect to the case, but, the guy was ultimately arrested and charged. There never was an explanation for the motive! Just a nut-case with a history of violence.
How do you rationalize something like that?

The more recent incident was a professional job. The case is pending, so I can't say too much. I should probably leave it at that.

Two very different events. In both cases, though, video evidence of the incident would've been helpful. Hence, my question about a body cam!

Have you looked into a “Go Pro” camera? They have them in different configurations and they’re a tried and true platform.

That said, 2 incidents in 30 years in a small Southern town, I would hope that you hit your lifetime quota for bad things happening while jogging. Personally if I was worried about something happening, I’d have a small carry gun in a belly band and call it a day. Good luck out there!
