I'm looking at one of these at my favorite LGS.

It has a price tag of $329.00 sitting in the case.

I can take it home for $350.00 OTD.

Condition looks very good (sorry no pictures). Though it might need a new cylinder retaining pin ($17.50 on the Uberti web site).

Anybody have one? Shot one? Any opinions on them?

I'm not very knowledgeable or experienced with single-action "cowboy" guns, but this one looks like a good buy.

Any/all opinions welcome...

Sight unseen it sounds like a good deal. I have a Cimarron El Malo 2 in .357 that is beautifully built. Up until I retired in '22, I sold Cimarron and Uberti side by side, and it was difficult to say if either was better built.

I have an "Evil Roy" in 357 and unless mistaken, the El Patrone had some action clean up work done at he factory?

The 357 SAA types feel different from the big bore stuff, definitely a tad heavier and hang different in the hand. Nothing bad, just different.

If you're allergic to the Uberti "3 clicks" replacing the hammer with a traditional (Taylors) and lopping off the dogleg lifter on the trigger makes it a 4 click. Have done this on a few and never had a "needs to be retimed" issue.

At that price it must be used, the retail is in the $700's and you can usually get them for around $650. I'd be suspicious why it's such a low price. If it is tight, go for it. The cylinder can get loose, just like a DA modern revolver, if it locks up tight and the trigger pull is regular and crisp, go for it.


The smaller bore guns are heavier because the barrel is thicker (smaller bore diameter) and there is more metal in the cylinder (smaller chambers) because the external dimensions are the same as the larger caliber guns.

I have a Uberti Colt 1873 Cattleman, same revolver as the El Patron (both are Colt SAA clones). I retrofitted it with the hammer and trigger sold by Taylor's (which is also Uberti made) to make it a true "4-click" action and it also improved the trigger break. My Cattleman had the newest style safety, with the floating firing pin and internal hammer rod. I bought a new trigger instead of trimming the dogleg lifter arm off the original. The retrofit takes all of twenty minutes without trying to hurry, the SAA action is very simple.

I also have a Taylor's (Uberti-made) Remington 1875 revolver, it has the older style spring tab safety on the hammer, but Taylor's doesn't have a retrofit for it yet (I asked this week). Both of my revolvers are .45 Colt. I refinished the grips on mine, the factory finish is very nice, but too slick and shiny for my taste. The wood in both sets of grips is very nice quality black walnut, and it's a shame to hide that under the reddish lacquer Uberti uses.

You are correct, it is a used gun.
Very light holster wear and turn line. Feels very tight and solid mechanically.
The biggest issue I see with it is the center pin for the cylinder is hard to remove - and I figured out why. There is a "burr" on it, so it can likely be fixed easily with a stone or file. If not, a new one is only $17.50 from Uberti.
For the price it still looks like a bargain compared to recent sales on GunBroker.

At that price I’d be suspicious why they are selling it so cheap. It’s not often a gun store sells a $500 gun for $329.

I have the 45 Colt model and would buy a 357 model without hesitation at that price. I’m not a huge SAA fan as the 45 El Patron is the only one I own, but it is a good gun.

Rural King often has the Cattleman 4 3/4" .357 magnum revolver on sale for around $350 new. Why pay more for a used one?

I've owned a few of the Ubertis that came through Cimarron Arms. All were outstanding. I had an El Patron in .45 Colt and it was the best of the lot. That model, as dsf pointed out, does have a smoothed up action from the factory, checkered grips and is just a great revolver.

The increasing arthritis in my hand makes working a single action revolver only enjoyable for about 15 rounds.

I would grab that one in a heartbeat if it's the "4 click" version rather than the newer "3 click" thought Cimarron offers a kit to return it to the original style.

Here are a couple pics of my Cimarron El Malo 2 .357. It has the larger "Army" grip frame, lower Bisley-type hammer, and 4-5/8" octagon barrel. I found a nice DeSantis crossdraw shuck that pairs up with this gun beautifully.

I haven't spent any trigger-time with El Malo in way too long, but now I'm thinking it has to happen just as soon as the weather warms up again!

I got a El Patron in a trade deal about 15 years ago.


Since it was unfired after leaving the Factory my intent was to flip it

It felt so good in the hand and it even had the traditional four clicks I decided to shoot it

I was very happy with it and still own it to this day

At $350 I would be a buyer

It is actually at a pawn shop, and we all know what kind of % pawn shops pay for used guns. I've got lots of good deals at this particular shop, because although they buy them cheaply, they don't turn around and mark them up 300% before putting them in the case.

In Montana the El Patrone is used a lot in SASS matches with great success!

At that price I would grab it as fast as possible..........
