After thinking about it off and on for well over a decade, I finally pulled the trigger on a new Winchester 1892 Carbine, made by Miroku in Japan. The rifle is in .357 magnum and sports a 20 inch barrel.

A one day $100-off sale on online purchases at Bass Pro nudged me over the edge, with a price of just over $1,000. Plus I had over a couple hundred dollars of award points to apply against the purchase from my Cabela’s card. Considering I see these for about $1,200 on GB plus delivery, plus cc fees, and plus FFL transfer, I think I did alright.

My subpar photos really don’t do the rifle justice. It is beautifully finished and has a quality feel that as a long time Browning Citori owner, I know to expect from Miroku.

I plan to sight it in and let it stretch it’s legs out at the rifle range later this week. It will be a huge success if it shoots half as good as it looks and feels. And if nothing else, it will be a fair bit more affordable to shoot than my .30-06 and .308 chambered rifles.

Every Miroku Winchester I’ve seen was very well-made and nicely finished. If I were to say I wasn’t envious I’d be lying.

There is so much accuracy built into those rifles, it’s a real shame that you can’t scope them. I’ve been playing with a Williams peep sight attached to the side the receiver of my Miroku 92 in 44M. The sight is temporarily held on by some 3M double sided tape. At 30 yards, I can put 5 shots in a 1.1 inch group. At 100, I usually put 4 into a sub 3 inch group, invariably, I spoil the group with one a bit out. I’m going to drill and tap that rifle one of these days.

I cannot confirm nor deny, but I’ve heard the rebounding spring can go away easily.

I think the 357s are more accurate than the 44s.

The used Browning/Miroku .44 B92 I got about 38 years ago had a scope on it but I took it off instantly because it was off center and I’m left handed. I liked it scopeless anyway. This gun is very high quality as of course the newer Winchesters. It has no tang safety but sadly no saddle rig, either. The action is smoother than my 1904 1892 Winchester.

The 357 and 44 really move along with 16" and longer barrels.

My Miroku 1892 in .45 Colt with the button mag is leaning up against the dresser in the bedroom as I write this response. A load out of 5+1 AE 225 gr JSP matches nicely with its 5.5" blued Vaquero stablemate.

some time ago I bought a 1892 20" in 44 Mag and like it just as well as the "big" one.

That is a very nice little rifle. I had a .44 B92 years ago. Don't recall why I traded or sold it. The 92 action was smoother than my old Winchester 94, Marlin 1894, or Henry lever actions.

I have an older Browning/Miroku 92 in .357, love it. Years ago I had Dale Storey's shop do a light trigger job and install a Lyman 66 aperture sight, along with replacing the standard rear sight with a blank.

It's really all the centerfire rifle I need these days, and a joy to shoot.

Mine are in .45 Colt and .44 Remington magnum. You will be happy.

I had one of the Browning B-92s many years ago in .44 mag, really nice little carbine. I traded it the first 4" 629 to show up in my area. I now have it replaced with a 1970 vintage Marlin 1894 SRC. I'd love to have one of the Miroku/Winchesters in .357 - I don't have a .357 carbine.

A year or two ago, I bought a "Japchester" Low Wall chambered in .357 Mag. It is a great shooting carbine and quite well-made.

I haven't tried their version of the M92, but I have several original Winchester 92s in .44-40, 32-20, and 25-20. They are accurate, butter smooth, and real joys to shoot. I think my pick is .32-20.

I am familiar with Miroku quality.

I have a Miroku manufactured Winchester Model 52.

The fit and finish on this rifle are amazing. Given the rarity of original Model 52s, I can't compare the old and new. But as a low estimate I think Miroku would be at least right in the ballpark.

I have not tested mine for grouping. I have only put a very few test rounds though it to start to break in the barrel, and then too many other activities intervened.

Back when I bought mine (around 2000) one of hook and bullet magazines did a round up type evaluation of all the (then) top grade .22 rimfire rifles. The Miroku-Winchester was one of them. In that instance though, the writer did not fire the rifle.

He said he did not intend to do so. His opinion was that this rifle was as perfect as it could be, and when production ended there would be no more. Thus he wanted to preserve this perfection.

So far he is right. Production has long ended, and the prices have gone up accordingly. No indication that production will resume.

Every time I look at mine, I am again struck by its beauty. I don't have anything to match it.

I am glad to read the quality is high on new Winchester lever actions.

The Browning B-92 that I had 20 years ago had the real slow twist barrel, I think 1 in 38. I couldn’t get that one to group 240s well, although I know it should have. I sold it and got the Miroku 1892 Short Rifle in 44M. If memory serves me correctly, the Miroku has a 1 in 24. Someone jump in and correct me if I’m wrong.

Since I have the Williams (temporarily) mounted on the side of my Miroku, I have a WHOLE lot more adjustment, sight wise than I ever did with either the factory buck horn or the Skinner, barrel mounted sight.

This Miroku 44 shoots different loads to very different points of impact at 100 yards. Now, with a truly adjustable rear sight, I’m no longer stuck with shooting just one load. So the last few days, I’ve been playing with 180s, 200s, 225 Flex Tips. I have found out that my old 429421/ 20g 2400 loads (single shot) shoot pretty well. Elmer would be proud.

I find that shooting iron sights well, which is hard to do, very satisfying. The apature helps tremendously. My front bead is .075 inches in dia, which means it’s 7.5 inches at 100. You’ll have to excuse me. I’m going to go look for an aperture front sight.

Nice gun! I have the 1873 version, Miroku, .45 Colt. Beautifully made guns.

Mine is in .357 Magnum. I like the Winchester/Miroku’s so much I also bouth, in addition to the aforementioned 1873 and 1892 an 1885 High Wall .45-70, an 1885 Low Wall .22 WMR, and an 1886 .45-70. They’re all beautiful firearms.

I have carbines, short rifles and take down rifles, mostly of recent manufacture. The Carbine is handy as all get out, And the deluxe take down rifle in .44 Remington magnum is just plain slick. But my favorite is the short rifle in .45 Colt. My 1895 in 30-06 ain't to shabby either.

When I shot in SASS matches, I used my Miroku Model 1895 in .30-40 Krag loaded with lead bullet ammunition for 100 yd matches. It was an outstanding rifle. Sold it when I stopped shooting in SASS matches, but I think about it often. Great memories!

What I like about the modern 92s pictured here with pistol grips is that the wrist and lever have a pronounced curve to them. The Uberti 73 rifles (which are beautiful) have pistol grips way far back that look totally cosmetic to me. And the levers look straight like a regular 73. My .44-40 1892 has a great feeling pistol grip like the new guns mentioned. All special features on this gun are in the factory letter. Shotgun butt, pistol grip with cap, take down, round barrel, and folding tang and rear sights. Frame is 1904 but the gun was shipped in 1911.

Miroku makes quality rifles for sure. I had a USRA 1886 take down by Miroku for a while... I like the '92 and being able to use the same ammo in your sidearm and your rifle, but have yet to own one.

Miroku, by the way, also makes wooden steering wheels for Lexus and perhaps other luxury vehicles.

I have four of the Miroku guns, and they are all gorgeous and pleasant to shoot. I wish Winchester had taken the same approach to the 9422.

I wanted to buy an 1895 when I bought the others but the only ones available were in .30-40 Krag and I wanted one in .30-06 Springfield (but the .30-06 wasn’t in-stock) I because I didn’t want to add another caliber. I kinda wish I had now but I’m beyond my peak earning years and you can’t have everything.
