Default Question: Are the Old and New Pythons the Same Size?

Are the old and new Pythons the same size? Specifically, if a holster fits one, will it fit the other equally well?

Depends on the barrel length. Original 4 inch was 4 inches - new 4 inch is actually 4.2 if I recall correctly. Otherwise nothing else is appreciably different.

The top strap is thicker as well. Whether they will fit the same holster is a qualified “maybe”. For my 6” new Python…it would physically fit in a holster for an older Python…but the thumb snap wouldn’t close. It could be how the holster is cut but more holster makers are producing holsters specifically for the new version.

For the 4.25” barrel Python it will depend if the holster has an open or closed bottom.

The grips are the same, but not the sights. So not exactly the same, but close. For holsters, I wouldn’t take a chance until someone actually tries actual guns and gives a report because the top strap is different. I’ve measured different dimensions on mine and some are the same and some slightly different, but I don’t have a holster for comparison and testing.

My son’s Six inch 2020 Python fits perfectly in my old Bianchi 5BHL.

The only way to know is try it.

Back in the early 70s good friend was LEO, saved and saved to buy a Python. We all went hunting in the mountains of Va. where he lost it. The hunt changed from bambi to Python. Took several hours but we found it. Very lucky.

My 4.25" new Python fits a Galco OWB for the 4" Python just fine. It is an open bottom design, but the muzzle does not extend below the opening. I guess it depends on the holster.
