Ruger SFAR 6.5 CM
Been wanting an AR10 for years, but I am not a fan of the venerable 308, however, I am fan of the 6.5mm cartridges, including the 6.5 CM. After handling, shooting the SFAR at this year’s SHOT Show media Day, I was smitten. The next day I stopped by the Ruger booth and placed my order.
After I got her home Friday, I adorned her with a Leupold
8.5-25x50, but think it may be a little too much scope; I have a MK 4 4.5-14x50 waiting in the wings. I won’t know for sure until I determine her primary purpose.

I'm interested to hear how the 6.5 SFAR shoots. I like mine in .308, but it's about a 1.5 MOA gun at best so far...

Unfortunately, I’ve read that about the 6.5 too. Based on a couple YT videos, it seems to prefer match grade bullets over soft point over soft point bullets. We’ll see.

From my reading and Web surfing, that would seem to be the norm for most rifles and calibers. There are some fancy hunting rounds out there with a polymer tip to give a match ammo profile with an expanding bullet, but they are not cheap.

This is the internet... are you positive it's not a 1/2 minute ALL DAY LONG like everybody else's?

With what ammo? I have a Howa 1500 that intensely dislikes 7.62x51 NATO 147gr ammo. The same ammo goes like a laser in a converted Mauser, so go figure.

I had very poor results with 147 and 150gr FMJ. Much better with 168gr Federal GMM and Hornaday TAP but it's still around 1.5 MOA at best. Honestly, that's about all I expect from a $1k production AR in .308. I'm still tinkering, but it's low on the priority list right now, so kind of 'back burnered'...

I thought I'd update this, since I had my SFAR .308 out yesterday. Got the best groups yet shooting Hornady 168 TAP and Federal 168 GMM. 8" steel at 500yds was no problem.
5 shot groups, 100yds. Target squares are .1 mil (.3"). Flyer on the TAP group was all me. It's zeroed for TAP, so the POI shift for GMM is interesting.
I'm glad to see this gun is capable of more than I thought it was.
How's it going with the 6.5 version?
