A couple of Colt snubbies
A couple more pistols from my father's collection. He liked .38 snubbies. I'm keeping these as well.
A second issue nickel Cobra from 1973 and a third series Detective Special from 1979. The Cobra could use a light polish but is in nice shape otherwise as is the DS.

One day in the 1990s I walked into my office with a Federal government agency and there was a gym bag on my chair. My first reaction was probably "HUH?!" but that was followed in a split second with "HOLY S%$# I KNOW THAT THERE IS A GUN IN THAT BAG!!!". My felonious friend literally gave me his uncle's Colt Cobra without a warning. 
I didn't like the grips (I still have them) so I put these Hogues on....
An excellent, lightweight gun useful for joggers, old people on walks (me, for instance), etc. 
I'm seriously considering giving it to my twin brother if he ever gets his New Jersey pistol permit.

Used my issued Colt DS, serial #689642, in a 1974 gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects and it went into evidence. I retired in ‘97 and have been looking for it ever since. If this happens to be part of your collection pls. send me a PM.

I have only one DS at present, a nice second issue from the early 1960s. But then that's all I need. It appeals to me more than the others. Once passed up one chambered in .38 NP/S&W. Have been kicking myself ever since.

I’m a big fan of the Colt snubbies:
The top one is a Detective Special, followed by a Diamondback and then a Police Positive Special with a 3” Detective Special barrel.
I would love to find a set of the shorter Agent grips for my Detective special someday.

I have had many DS's over the years. One served as a backup to my Python on my hip. I have now graduated (?) to the Magnum Carry. Too expensive I know, maybe I'll look for a cheaper DS or Cobra for actual shooting practice.

Beautiful DS
Both are 3rd issue. 73 was the first year for the shrouded ejector rod 3rd issue.
The 3rd issue DS and 2.5” DB are personal favorites.

The police dept can’t tell you what happened to it?
Seems like they would have given you first choice to buy it.

I was very late realizing I could purchase it & the records don’t go back to ‘74. My best guess is the Colt was traded on newer S&W service weapons after the court released their hold on it.

A 3rd Issue DS was my first legal carry gun. Its my all time favorite snubby and I'll never part with it.
I've grown quite fond of the Colt "D" frame revolvers. here it is along with a few of its brothers.

Great couple of Colt snubbies. I only have one but I like it a lot. Right now, I can’t find the year of this Detective Special nor the pictures with the original grips. But, I kinda think these sambar stag grips look really COOL!

Only have one Colt snub .38 but it would complete the OPs set as a trio,
its called a Colt SFVI

As a dyed-in-the-wool Smith & Wesson guy, I only own a couple of Colt revolvers. Both are iconic and show some use, but I like them. Because I'm a fan of Film Noir (Private Eyes, cops, & gangsters), I just had to have a Detective Special (a la Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, etc.)! Mine is a 2nd Issue from 1952...it's not the most comfortable revolver to shoot but it's fun and nostalgic!
