Dan Wesson Model 741 .41 Magnum 8” Range Report

I’m looking at a Dan Wesson Model 741 .41 Magnum 8” locally and would like some reference to price. There’s only one on GB with a starting bid of $2399 and no bids. No completed auctions on 741’s and no items for sale or completed on true gun value.

The revolver comes with over 850 rounds of reloads for pulldown, new brass and bullets, dies, custom shoulder holster (like you’re going to ccw that puppy :eye roll:), and misc. tools.

The finish looks to be polished out a bit also. Asking price is $1800.

I picked this .357 up last summer, don't know much about Dan Wesson's and it doesn't have a model number stamped on it. It had goodyear's on it and no box, papers, tools or anything. But if memory serves me correctly I paid about $750.

I owned a few DW revolvers for 46 years , Hunted mainly with a 8" 15-2 357mag for 40 years but finally changed to my 4" barrel/shroud . I had a '78 in 44V with a extra non-vented barrel but finally sold it few years ago but I still have a couple 15-2 models and a 22lr along with a few barrels and is much as I real like DW revolvers but you have to be a heck of a 41 mag fan to even think about buying this 41 mag , but that's just my opinion !

Your money to spend as you wish . The s&w model 57 is back if thats of any interest . good luck

Yours looks to be stainless steel so perhaps the link below can help . EWKarms is a good sight for most small parts needs and options . Good guys and you can ask if any shorter barrels and shrouds are available. I picked up a 4" for my wifes 15-2 . SS metal might be harder or costlier if that matters . There is no need to over tighten the barrel nut , just snug up and be sure to lube those barrel treads or use anti-seize . There use to be no drill optic mounts for 1" scopes available from Beuelher and with a 2moa ultra dot shooting 4" groups at 100 yards was very doable with the heavy loads . $750 can be considered a good buy any more . I frind picked up a real nice blued 8" with 4" barrel and green optic front sight extra for 525 two years ago .

If you handload ammo you can find those old goodyear grips come in handy specially with some 170gr or 180gr at 1400fps !

They have certainly gone up since I acquired mine. I paid $850 for this one exactly as it sits more than a decade ago

With 850+ reloads, virgin brass, virgin bullets, dies and leather... That sounds like a pretty reasonable deal

The shoulder holster is not for concealed carry, that is for woods carry when you're out hunting. I have a shoulder rig for my scoped 8 3/8" model 657

However that asking price would not stop me from trying to cut a few hundred dollars off of that price

By the way that is a very nice set of grips that are included with it, much nicer than usually comes on them
 
Thanks for all the info guys. I have limited knowledge about Dan Wesson firearms, especially revolvers. I did own a 1911 Valor for a couple of years, then sold it. I knew the revolvers had interchangeable barrels, but wasn’t sure if they were still available. Very adaptable to be able to use a 4” for target practice and the long tube for hunting.

What do you guys think about the finish? It looks to me like it’s been polished and has some swirl marks in it. I’m sure that has to affect the value also.

Absolutely it has been polished, however I do not consider that to be a big deal on a stainless firearm that has already been fired

One evening with a rag and a tube of Flitz, you can sit in the big easy chair and turn that into a mirror bright finish very much like nickel looks. It will be much nicer than the dull finish DW used on stainless revolvers

Being that Dan Wesson revolvers were always sought after for their legendary accuracy, especially back in the days of metallic silhouette shooting. That tensioned barrel design just really improved the way they shot. The Smith & Wesson Model 327s multi piece barrels recreates that same accuracy

You will be pleased with how it shoots
 
If that variant suits a perceived use/want for you, you should be all over it. That's a good price for the whole package. I say that admitting that it does not suit any need/want I have, but knowing that there are some for whom it is a great deal. It would be a good hunting platform, although I would go with a chest rig, I think.
 
The grips are beautiful. The polished-by-Bubba look is not. With the tools, dies, and 850 cases plus projectiles, that seems like a good deal even for just a shooter.

Just give it a thorough inspection for lockup, timing, trigger, etc. I might worry that someone shot the snot out of it, although that really would be a challenge with a Monson-made Dan Wesson revolver. (If it wasn’t made in Monson, Mass. I might be more cautious.)

Sounds like a deal to me, also. Finish is but a time with a Scoth-Brite pad and elbow-grease . Glenn beat me to post my only hesitation. :)

I think that's a decent price with all that's included. That much brass and bullets will set you back if you had to buy them. Do you want to pull 850 rds. :).
If you want it and it all checks out, I don't think you would be paying to much.
 
Ok, it’s definitely coming home with me! I’ve met and dealt with this gentleman before, and I was blown away by how organized and meticulous his reloading room is and how pristine his collection was. I was kind of on the fence because it is a long ride, but kept looking at the pictures of it all day and finally decided I Want It! So anyway, I texted him and he remembered me. I was a little concerned by the possibly over polished finish, so I asked for some better pictures. He sends me the pictures, and it’s just absolutely stunning! Ok, I’m in for sure, then he asks if I noticed that he dropped the price? Wait…what? I can’t believe my good fortune, he dropped it to $1600! I’m going over to pick it up Friday after work..,long day, long drive, but definitely worth it!

Giving Dan a ride home

I headed out from work a bit early and went to pick it up. All told, I got almost 880 rounds of reloads, about 500 primed brass, 300 210 gr. XTP’s, tools, a custom holster, and a couple of boxes of miscellaneous goodies. I’ll check it all out once I get home and get some better pictures. Now for my long trek back to the other coast.
