Default Winchester models 56 and 57 .22s

These two models were produced from 1926 to 1929. It was Winchesters plan for a medium priced bolt action magazine fed sporter and target rifles. They were both identical receivers and barrels. They were serial numbered together with a total of 8,597 made. They were both chambered either in .22 Long Rifle or .22 Short. The 56s had regular iron sights and a walnut stock with a schnabel stock. The 57 was a target rifle with Lyman peeps and a barrel band. Due to the economy they weren't selling well accounts for their short production.

Later Winchester produced the model 69s and 75s which were basically the same rifles and they sold well for many years.

Here are my examples, top .56 .22 short, two 56s in .22 long rifle and the bottom is the 57 target in .22 long rifle.

They only made 1,171 56s in .22 short.

The two model 56s in .22 Long Rifle

The bottom rifle in this picture is the model 57 Target in .22 Long Rifle

Those are some beautiful Winchesters!! I love my 75, excellent shooter, and they sure don’t make ‘em like that anymore…! I think mine was made in 1937 if I remember correctly.

You have a great collection. I traded my model 56 in .22 short because it never had the accuracy of the model 69 or 75. I sold my model 52C once I quit high power competition.
I am occasionally on the lookout for a Model 56 in .22 LR.

Your 75 looks nicer than mine. I think mine was 1938, the serial # is 1005.
It's the top rifle in my last picture. All those are Winchester target rifles. Top is 75, next down is 69A target, next is 69A Junior Target Shooters Special, next is 47 Target, next 60A Target and the 57.

The model 69s did cock on closing as did the 56 and 57. The 69A cocked on opening. I have a 69 dual sight.
