Default CZ 457 "Lux", .22 Magnum caliber, elegant magnum shooter!

I have owned a Ruger Single Six Convertible for some time now, .22 Long Rifle cylinder and .22 Magnum cylinder. Until recently, I hadn't shot the .22 Magnum cylinder to see what kind of performance I might get. .22 Magnum ammo has been in short supply, and in my mind, expensive. .22 Magnum ammo has started flowing into Walmart's around me, so I bought a box, slipped in the Magnum cylinder in the Ruger Single Six, and discovered it was accurate, felt considerably more powerful than .22 Long Rifle, and was fun to shoot. I have gotten comfortable with .22 Magnum in the Single Six, so started casting about for a .22 Magnum rifle....

Three options, Ruger American, Henry Lever rifle, and the CZ 457. I have owned a 2009 vintage CZ 452 in .22 Long Rifle, and have put many thousands of rounds through it, so was familiar with the CZ and happy with my 452, so ordered a 457 in .22 Magnum through my local dealer. Wound up being only $100 more than the Henry, so it was a "No Brainer" for me.

I have had it for a couple weeks now, and have put about 200 rounds through it. Like the 452, it has a Military style Tangient sight, gradiated for 25 to 200 Meters. No scope needed, at least until my vision fades with age, then it has the ability to have a scope mounted. I like the sights as they are, and can reliably hit smaller targets out to 135 yards. Trigger is suberb! Still working on sight data to hit out to 200 yards....

Here's some pics:

Turkish walnut stock, hooded front sight, "Hogback" style European butt stock, five shot detachable magazine:

With it's companion handgun, Ruger Single Six with Bianchi "Lawman" holster:

With it's older brother, a 2009 vintage CZ 452 "Trainer". The 452 has a Beech stock instead of Walnut, the 452 does have a glossier, higher polish blued finish, sign of cost cutting at CZ since 2009:

So, I'll be visiting Walmart frequently to load up on .22 Magnum ammo, and get good with both rifle and handgun. Is there varmint hunting in my future? Possibly.....

Edited to add this photo, ran a few more rounds through the CZ 457 "Lux" this afternoon to fine tune the sight adjustments. The smaller swinging steel is 4" in diameter, shots fired slowly and carefully from the sitting position at 100 yards. The larger, 8" swinging steel was shot rapid fire fire from the sitting position. I think this rifle is ready for field use!

Very nice. My 455 Lux in .22lr is one of my favorites. Been using it more with tech sights lately, but the scope was fun too.

I'm very happy with my Ruger American in .22 WMR. Accurate, crisp adjustable trigger, and no feeding problems with the reliable 9-shot rotary magazine. Good price also!

Great little utility rifle [got one] but a 452 FS is a "gentleman's" walk in the wood rifle....... and in my case sub-MOA

I own a 455 Trainer. Very similar to the 457. If I recall your model 457 is capable (as is my 455) of being switched out to 22lr or 17hmr with only the swap of the barrel and magazine. My 455 is the most accurate 22 I've ever owned. Also in my opinion, one of the nicest looking 22 rifles out there.

I'm a huge fan of CZ 22s. I have a nice stable of them. One of my favorites in the 22 WMR caliber, is the CZ 512. It's a semi auto with a 16" barrel. It's handy and it's a surprisingly powerful package. 10 rounds of 22WMR makes a mess. It is also an accurate medium range plinker. CZ rarely disappoints.

I have the 457 Training rifle in 22LR and agree they’re very fine rifles and very accurate. CZ seems to be producing excellent firearms. I had one of the original CZ75’s pre B model I bought new in the 90’s and it was exceptional. I now own 7 of the new Colt revolvers and the workmanship on my copies is flawless.

Thanks for posting this Canoeguy . I've been wanting a 22 WMR rifle and you've helped to push me towards a CZ . I've read good things about them , although it's nice to hear it from fellow forum members .

I love my CZ 452 in 22lr. I have a Leupold 2-7x Rimfire scope on it and it will shoot pistachios off a 2x4 at 50 yds no problem.

About 6 years ago Dicks Sporting Goods was clearancing out a bunch of their rifles and I saw this Savage 93 heavy barrel in 22 WMR for around $180 and had to have it. I’ve never been thrilled with how loose the mag fit but it hasn’t really given me any issues functionality wise. Also, I can’t complain when it shoots like this at 50 yds with a cheap 3-9 Sig $80 scope.

I got the CZ addiction a while ago and have a bunch of 452, 455, and newer 457’s. None finer than my sweet 452 FS with 2-7 Leupold glass!

Been out to a range with my 9 year old grandson for several months, once a week after school. In addition to several other .22 rifles, including a youth stock on my 1965 1022, bought new, and a youth Henry lever rifle, I bought a youth stocked 457, and after he shot his new bolt gun several times, put on a 4X Leupold scope, specific to rimfire rifles. He is a really good shot, and we are learning different firing positions, prone is next up. At our range, we throw clay pidgin's up on the berm, and pop cans, and some water bottles for him to blast. We are limited to about 25 yards on our preferred range.

He had no "bad safety habits' to unlearn, so he is not just a really accurate shooter, but very safety oriented too. His new CZ is a superb rifle, and if we need to move up to a 22 mag someday, that just requires a new barrel. We shoot maybe 200+ rounds each range visit, so I am buying 40 grain by the thousands for him. I have a few other CZ rifles, and all are superb in steel and wood.

CZ makes great rifles.

Bought my Boys a 452 Scout to get them started. They have a single shot adaptor + they take 5/10rd mags down the road.

Their second was a youth stocked 10/22.... now set up like an M-1 carbine!

Still works great for my 5'4" wife!

I've got several 452,453 and 527 in .17hrm, 22lr, .22mag and .223/5.56

One more photo to add, shots fired from the sitting position at 100 yards. Smaller target is 4" in diameter, shots fired slowly and carefully. The larger 8" target was fired "Rapid Fire".... I'm digging this rifle!

If you have a CZ with a rear tangent sight.... "J&P Products LLC" makes "Ghost ring sight apertures"..... that replace the rear sight blade.

Three sizes 1/16, 3/32, 1/8...... $21 or all three $59.

On there website under "CZ rimfire parts"

Highly recommend if you are shooting irons or as a backup to a scope!

Skinner Sights also have some nice peep sight options for those w/o tangent sights.

The CZs are beautiful. I’ve wanted a 527 in .223 for awhile. Ended up buying an Interarms Mark X mini Mauser a couple months ago. Looks unfired. My wife got me a 4-12 Vortex for my birthday

SweeTalker is a Marlin model 57-M

SweeTalker was a $45.00 dollar purchase in 1971. She's been to California, Alaska, Florida, Virginia, Rhode Island, back to California twice, and now resides in Illinois. She still shoots to point of aim regardless of my poor eyesight. In that time, it's been sighted in once, and has held that sight through all the moves. As far as .22 magnums go, I'll take this over all the rest. It is my grab and run rifle if the shtf. Llance
