Even though I haven’t hunted in 30 years, if I made it back to Kodiak it would be my Kimber .375 H&H and Ruger M77RSI in .308. Put a Leupold 3X on the 375 and a 2x7 on the .308.

I have a bunch to choose from, but if I had to choose two, I’d go with:
Custom pre 64 M70 280 Rem
Custom Sako AV 375 H&H

Default Two Favorites

I'm going to go with Ruger #1 International 30-06 and 117-year-old Winchester 94 in 38-55. Both anchor deer very well. If I ever shoot something with my side-by-side 45-70 Baikal I might change my answer! Double rifles are just cool in my book. Although I can't justify spending what a proper one would run me.

Happy shooting!

Fred

30-06 ... Custom Built Sporter , 1903-A3 Action , English Walnut fancy grade sporter stock , built circa 1969 ... by me .

30-30 ... Winchester model 94 , with Williams 5-D receiver (peep) sight ... I just like it ... shoots well and carries easily .

My favorite two rifle cartridges are 22-250 (Remington 700 HB Varmint), and .22RF. (Anschutz Sporter).

I've had various calibers from .22RF to 30-06 and lots inbetween, but these two are my favorites for most accurate.

More the second than the first, in my case. No doubt there are a lot of things i can't (or shouldn't) do anymore, but I've found out the sad, hard way that a lot of the shooting adventures I found so much enjoyment in through the years just aren't any fun as the old contemporaries died off.

But I'll play along with the original premise - using guns that have gone down the road I would take the Winchester model 70 safari in 458 Mag (that was one that I shouldn't be shooting at this age) and the Remington 700 in .308; if restricted to something I currently still have I guess the custom Winchester .358 and either the model 7 Remington in .308, or the heavy barreled 20" AR in 5.56. At my age if I told folks who know me that I planned to go Cape Buffalo hunting I would hope they would do their best to dissuade me, surmising my judgement may be starting to slip. A man's got to know his limitations . . .

A .243 Winchester and a .300 Weatherby Mag. There isn’t much that the later cannot do considering bullet selection, practice and shot placement.

I'm partial to my Ruger M77 Ultralight in 257 Roberts and my Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Magnum. I bought the M77 when I got home from my second deployment in 2004. The 700 was left to me in 2006 when my brother-in-law passed away.

If relegated to just two, I would keep a Model 700 in 30/06, and a tang safety Model 77 in .22-250…..both boringly accurate and cover all game things for my uses.

For my two it would have to be a 30-30 and a .22(LR or Mag.) If shotguns were permitted, scratch the .22 and give me an 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge.

Default Two Favorite Rifle Cartridges

I would choose my Remington Model 700 Classic 30/06 and my Winchester Model 94 44 Magnum.
