I admit to owning this WWII Japanese Type 94 pistol. Not only ungainly, non-ergonomic and incredibly ugly, it also will inadvertently fire by pressing the exposed sear. It's my favorite example of what a combat pistol should not be!

I own a Taurus Model 82 stainless steel revolver (38 Special). Won it at an auction for a reasonable winning bid. An impulse buy. Wasn't sure about it, but it turns out that it's a very solid and reliable "no-frills" duty style revolver. Not ashamed at all.

Many years ago, when I was on a budget, I purchased a new keltec p32 for pocket carry. Less then 50 rounds later - a dead trigger! So I sent it in for repair and traded it. Thinking I was a little hasty I wanted to give Keltec another chance so sometime after the p32 I purchased a P11 and that broke too (don't remember exactly what broke)! So I had that fixed and traded it. I guess I didn't learn the first time - shame on me. I will never buy another Keltec product.

That's sounds like it was worth it for the RUGER SPEED SIX SNUB IN 38! That is one of the coolest 38s. You can shoot heavy duty 38 loads in a speed six. Mine is the 4" version. It's one of the last guns I would ever part with.

I tried to shoot a Hardballer in a club competition back a lot of years ago. I wanted to tighten up the barrel bushing and the only thing available was a blue bushing. It improved the accuracy but would seize up if not well lubricated. Wanted a long slide but never found one.

A Llama .45 in 1979 -175.00 new.

Davis 22 derringer. But I didn't buy it. It was given to me. I didn't know they could make a gun as inaccurate as that one is.

Embarrassed? Inherited a Armi Galesi Brescia .25 acp. Had to make a new sear pin and tweak the mouth of the magazine to get it to go bang. Might make a bad guy change his mind--if he doesn't see it first. Regardless, I think it's a sexy little thing.

I'm so embarrassed that I bought a 2-inch Taurus 856, that I'm considering drilling a hole above the thumbpiece and inserting a fake plug.

Upside is it will hold 6 and rated to fire +P ammo. Not bad for a small frame revolver.

I just remembered a gun that probably qualifies for being embarrassing to display. I was getting started in Cowboy Action Shooting and needed an appropriate shotgun. Since I wasn't exactly being overpaid I had to search hard for something I could afford. So one day I went to a gun show and somebody was selling a Stevens Model 311 double barrel 12 gauge with barrels that looked like trash. But the bores looked good and the stock looked good. The story as I remember it was that the gun was left out in the rain in an open boat. The original finish was destroyed so the former owner just cold blued the barrels. It looked like heck, but to me it was perfect, because I wouldn't ever have to worry about putting another scratch on the gun. So I bought it and still have it. And one year I went down to the Virginia State SASS Championship outside Roanoke and found a laser engraver. I proudly had the shotgun's stock engraved with my SASS alias and number "Punxsutawney Pete SASS #1286 Life" and an engraving of a groundhog. If my avatar looks familiar to you, I'm in my SASS costume.

One of my Sgt.'s bought one of those way back when. Could not get it to run, our 1stSgt and myself were M1911 shade tree 'smiths ( we had built about 100 M1911's between us from parts). We tried everything we knew and no dice. Finally the Sgt. used 30 wt motor oil on it in desperation. And it ran!!! After several hundred rounds using 30 Wt., he was able to just use regular gun oil. As far as I know he probably still has it as it shot very well and he was proud of it.

Guns that embarrassed me? Only one really and that was a RG 66 SAA .22LR. It shaved lead so bad nobody could stand near you when shooting it.

Not pretty? I have a Winchester Model of 1912 made in 1918. Finish is trashed (read rode very hard and probably put up wet). The LGS had it on GB and I thought it would make a good truck gun. Put an $87.00 bid on it (this was three years ago) and let it ride. At the end of the auction I got a "You Have Won" email, was very surprised. It had a Poly-Choke on it, and I hate those, just ugly just plain ugly!! Had the barrel cut down to 18 inches and use it as a back up house gun now. Not great on looks, but functions like new.

These are two of the pistols I'm embarrased to say I own. Now, I got these for free from a friend who closed his pawnshop.

Top is a RG-23 in 22LR and the bottom is a Clerke's 1st in 32 S&W. I've shot the RG and it worked just fine. My pawnshop friend said they referred to RG as Real Garbage! Now the Clerke has to be the worst pistol ever made in the USA. I've never fires it and probably never will.

Maybe you would be embarrassed, but I'm not.

Had a RG .22LR revolver once. Shot it once. With luck, 4 of the 6 rounds might actually fire. It shot patterns instead of groups. At seven yards it did good to stay on paper with a 24"X24" target.
But it served the purpose I bought it for. Got it from a co-worker for $10, took it to a gun buyback and got $75 for it.

I've got a Nagant revolver. My best friend was an avid C&R collector and gave it to me for Christmas. It was a package deal. Gun, holster, cleaning rod, screwdriver and lanyard. All for $79.
For an extra $20, I got a spare .32acp cylinder for it.
Yep, trigger is absolutely awful, but its fun.



I also have a Raven .25acp. Guy said he cleaned it and now every time he tried to load it, it jammed. I gave him $20, took it home, turned the firing pin around like its supposed to go and and now it runs like a top. It may be a cheap piece of junk, but the darned thing is 100% reliable. Its never jammed or failed to fire.

I'm told this gun should qualify, but I kind of like it regardless -

The Sardius 9 aka the "Hebrew Hammer". A LGS happened to be selling it through GB and I threw out a bid, figured I was visiting that weekend anyway so what the heck. No one else bid.

Weird little gun. Makes the VP70 pull seem target like and it the barrel is fixed. The breech block is separate from the slide and floats to unlock.

Always goes bang. Could be worse choices for CCW I guess.

Embarrassed? No, can't say anything I have (or had) would embarrass me. I've owned about every variety of "saturday night special", the "ring of fire" guns and some real clunkers from all over. Back when we had the gunshop we sold many of them new and took in a lot of trades to be resold. Often took one home to play with it, surprised me sometimes when one of them worked very well........ May not have been durable but worked and shot to point of aim.........

Had some big name brand guns that didn't work as well out of the box as some of the cheapies which was kind of sad. Older now and semi-retired I still have a few oddballs and cheapies around but mostly older ones. H&R, Iver Johnson, a few older imports. The closest I can get to embarrassed is by the appearance of a few of them. I never hesitated to buy a gun with finish issues or even broken if the price was right. And while I will fix any mechanical issue I won't spend good money on refinishing one. Ugly doesn't affect the shooting but I'm not likely to haul them out to show off LOL! Took one out the other day, a Beretta 1915/19 32Auto that has severe pitting acne all over the slide and frame.......... Still shoots to point of aim and with perfect reliability.

Let it be known at this time I shall snicker in your general direction!

ugly and not particularly ergonomic but cheap to shoot, lots of fun, took abuse like a trailer park housewife and was priced right.

I don't have any I'm embarrassed of, but I'm sure some think I should be.

#1 on that list...Taurus PT809. Ugly and let's say...unrefined. Don't really care for it but it was a warranty replacement for another Taurus that I did like that was part of the "settlement". I'd sell it but it's worth so little it's not worth the effort.

So I keep it. It's a good disposable 9mm. 18 round magazines. I've put 5,000 rounds through it trying to break it but I failed. It handles everything from 115gr practice fodder to lead bullet reloads to hollow points without a single bobble. Go figure.

I for one don't have a problem with Taurus. The only one I had that was a problem got fixed by the factory for free.

I think they make serviceable inexpensive firearms for the most part. But I'm not buying any more. I have three.

I had a few and put a torch to them. There is actually a prescribed way to legally destroy a firearm. I wish I hadn't.

Ugh, now that reminds me of a gun that I am actually ashamed to own...


Romanian MilSurp Cugir TT-33C.

I originally purchased this firearm with the intention of making it a birthday gift for my brother. I ordered it online sight unseen, the seller described it as being; "Meticulously refinished and reconditioned by the factory" but as you can see, it's clearly in no such condition, and this picture was taken AFTER I had cleaned the pistol up!

It was all caked up with carbon inside, there was rust everywhere, the safety fell out the first time I took it down for cleaning, and the magazine was so horribly rusted inside that I could barely get the baseplate off to clean it. Fortunately, another user (Old_Cop) reached out to me and generously offered to send me a spare magazine in the mail, which I happily accepted.

Alas, I never warmed up to it, as it was never my thing in the first place, but I couldn't give it to my brother in this condition. I had originally planned on having it refinished in Gold Nitride as sort of a joke, but couldn't see investing that much money into it.

I had a Raven 25 I got in a trade about 40 years ago. I sold it after running 1 box of ammo through it. Now I wish I’d kept it and started collecting Saturday night specials.

I’m not at all embarrassed but own both a 32acp and 22LR Davis Derringer. They’re actually fun little guns and easy to slip in a pocket.

No embarrassment here but no pride either. An Italian 6.5 Carcano that someone tried to make into a sporter and failed. I bought it so I can convert it to 7.62X39. That is the only other cartridge which fits the bolt face. And since I have an unopened case of ammo, I think it's only right to have a soft shooting hunting rifle for the short ranges of the western Washington mountains.
My dad hunted all his life in the mountains of Snohomish and Skagit counties and the longest range he claims to have taken a deer was 75 feet. A .30-06 is a bit much at those ranges.

I have unsuccessfully scoured the web to find a single instance where the BG yelled "Stop! You're not gonna shoot me with something gaudy, are you?"

Mine is a "Sedgley Baby Hammerless". Circa. 1920 DAO. .22 Short. S/N 547
This was given to me by my wife's uncle about 30 years ago. He was a 40 year LEO. I suspect he may have taken it away from some "Ne'er Do Well" and it never made it to the evidence room.
At any rate, it has resided in the darkest recesses of the gun safe all these years. It's kinda cute. The trigger folds forward, I guess to make it safer for pocket carry. Hardly necessary, as the trigger pull goes beyond the capability of my 12 lbs. trigger gauge. It's actually in pretty good condition for a 100 year old gun. Never shot it - but maybe I will now.

I had a Bauer .25 ACP pistol for a while in the 1980's - it was not too accurate and really cheap. I can't remember what I traded it for but good riddance.

Only firearm I would be embarassed by is one that failed me in a public or self defense situation. I own a Security Industries of America snub, made in NJ (Hey, the Colt Paterson was made here.) Short lived company 1979-1980, quality control is eh !-the rifling practically straight. last range session it keyholed at 15 yards.

But is hit the target? Sideways through the target is better than a miss!

By the age of 6 was already a gun snob. Old Man was dyed in the wool Winchester, Browning, S&W & Colt customer. Although he would point out the excellent firearms of European manufacture. When I was about 15 is the only time I strayed. I bought a Remington 742c. Didn’t take me long to realize the error of my ways and get back on the straight and narrow. The only pistol that was a complete disaster was the SIG Mosquito. A curveball from a reputable company.

I am not embarrassed to own my LOWLY Bersa Thunder Pro 9. Nobody wants 1 so thought I'd post it. Practiced shooting plates with it. Went quite well. Never had any function issues either. Bob

Embarrassing? Well sorta. But there is some sentimental value in this one. Does anyone recognize it? All I can tell is that it was made in Germany. Chambered in 22 “Manstopping” Short. The front sight is adjustable for windage, without tools, and sometimes without assistance. It is a numbers matching example, should there be a collector out there…. Don’t overlook the customized grips!

Looks like one of the many spin offs RG made and sold back in the 60's........... I've seen a bunch of these, mechanically identical but with different names. Probably they just put whatever name the importer wanted on them, kind of a throwback to the "suicide specials" of the late 1800's. I can remember seeing these in mail order ads when I was a kid, very cheap little things!!

I was embarrassed to have been present when my brother-in-law purchased a chrome plated Jimenez Arms JA22 for his wife. She was downright upset about it!

For those who aren't familiar with Jimenez Arms, they are the direct descendant of Jennings Firearms and Bryco Arms.

Honestly, none. I did own a Kel-Tec P32 once, which wasn’t such a bad little pistol so long as you fed FMJs thru it- and honestly if I’m ccw’ing a .32 I’d prefer penetration rather than expansion. I don’t go for anything .380 or less in a handgun (save a .22) so I sold it off.

Some Might Say.

I've owned probably more than a dozen Taurus guns over the years, including one little 25 ACP with pink plastic grips. I've got three Taurus' now, two 327 magnum revolvers and a G3 9mm. I've been told I should be ashamed of them, but it hasn't happened yet.

I've owned several other guns that were pink or purple. One was pink and chrome. They all worked just fine.

Heck, I've owned Charter Arms, Taurus, Kel-Tek, High Point, Unique, Galasi, Harrington and Richardson, and probably some others I can't think of off the top of my head...Oh, a Nagant Revolver too.

Never been ashamed of any of them. They were all fun.

I am everything but embarred to admit that I have owned a shoebox full of Roehms, ranging from marginal to good shooters, Brycos, Jennings, Galesis, EAA .32 & .380 ACP, H&R top break revolvers and all kind of oddballs and I shot them all.

Nothing is better than personal experience to come to a conclusion; it separates opinion from facts.

My son went to pick up a pistol he had bought from Bud's at his FFL and when he saw a High Point 9mm for $160, he decided to just buy it and see if it worked. I was there when he shot the gun the first time at 10 yards and it worked without a glitch.

Funny thread!

I’ve had many non-gun friends give me guns they somehow acquired but did not want, and for some reason I ended up getting three Spanish S&W copies in a row.

The hammer spur on one of them broke off while I was dry-firing it; that was pretty embarrassing.

Jennings .22. Its in a box in my garage somewhere too. I had a Commando Arms .45 just out of high school. Looked like a Thompson SMG but used grease gun mags. You could hit a 50 gallon drum with it, provided you were in the drum when firing.

I bought a llama Comanche III for $40 A FEW years ago …. Not really embarrassed, bought it to shoot reloaded ammo I bought to get the brass. Won’t shoot unknown reloaded ammo in my smiths.

Easy. It's one I bought just this week.

Rossi Brawler single shot .45 Colt/.410. If there were snakes in Alaska, it would be more legit, but...nope. if I were one of the fellas that shoots halibut before bringing them onboard, but...nope. not a practice I utilize. Maybe for small game? Nope. The donut pattern from the rifling renders it useless at anything past 10 yards. It does shoot .45 Colt accurately, but...standard pressure and single shot. Anything I wanna shoot with a .45 Colt besides paper and old soda cans should probly be getting shot at with a repeater. For the person I am, and the place I live, it is the single most useless firearm I own.

I got it because it was inexpensive and novel. I like the picatinny rail on top of it, and I like the fully rifled barrel, as well as the ejector. It's fun to plink around with, but if it's to ever serve a higher purpose, I dunno what that would be.
