Default Finally met my first Colt in person

Sent the money for my first Colt to the seller just over a month ago. Since then I have had two significant surgical procedures, and by the Grace of the Creator have recovered well. Today I went to the FFL to start the NICS check and got to see my new to me -- and apparently still unfired -- revolver that was built in 1969:

The surgeries were a Blessing
The new gun is icing on the cake

You got yourself a good one. The Colt D-frames are great revolvers…and one with a 3” barrel is a real plus. The orange safety disc wasn’t done then but it’s nice someone added it.

Congrats, that’s a sweet Colt DS. I recently found this 1974 nickel 3rd issue.

Unfortunately, the box is a repro from the crook in Sparta, TN.

Sorry for the bad news, but it's
something you should know.
The Colt itself is a great piece, nothing bad
about it.

Here's hoping you have a great recovery.

You should play the Peter Gunn theme by the Blues Brothers when you bring it home.

Nice DS, and the 3" bbl. is cool. I'm a big fan of Film Noir (Bogart, E.G. Robinson, Cagney, etc.), so I had to have a Detective Special. My snubby is a 2nd Issue from 1952 with original box and paperwork. It's not the most comfortable revolver to shoot, but the cool factor is certainly there. Enjoy!

The guy sells counterfeits he has made in China and represents them as new old stock...and for high prices to boot. If he represented them as reproductions that's fine...but he doesn't. He's well known among the collector world but there's always those who get taken.

That makes him a crook.

Everyone has a prettier one than me. Second issue from 1959. It does make a good truck gun. I've thought about sending it back to Colt for a refinish but then one of my S&W's would be banished to the truck.

Colt doesn't refinish guns anymore...at least not "legacy" Colts. They don't even work on older guns. The best they might do is provide a list of companies that do such work but they don't endorse anyone.

If you like, visit the Colt Forum and
do a search using terms like Blovit or Vikrant (2 screen names he used to use) or repro Colt boxes, or fake box guy, and you will see many posts about this guy.

One smart member even was able to dig up shipping manifests from China to his name and address in Sparta, TN. detailing the company in China, descriptions of the boxes and naming him as the end user.

When this crook found out, he denied this and even threatened some members. He was banned, of course. I invited him up to my place in PA if he wanted to discuss tbe issue, he demurred.

As a cop, I appreciate you giving him the benefit of the doubt, but he's scum.

Don't let the 3,000 plus positive feedbacks he had on Gunbroker and Ebay fool you.
Most of his customers don't know the product is fake; the ones that do are reluctant to publically admit so. Just as some art and firearms auction houses won't publically admit to offering fakes when it has been proved as such.

You'll find some interesting reading.

Learn something new everyday it seems. Was this only on a specific model or the whole line up? What were the dates of this happening. Tell tale signs maybe. Any fake Smith boxes out there. Maybe a different thread is needed. Thanks

He sells many era Colt boxes…along with what he claims are original end labels which he will add “original” markings for you. I don’t know for sure but wouldn’t be surprised at all if he sells counterfeit boxes for other makes…Colt isn’t the only make for which people prize original boxes.

Not knowing anything about Colt accoutrements, how did you spot that the box was a fake?

Too much to type. Check out the search parameters I suggested at the Colt Forum.

Colt box corners of the type shown in the original post are cut square.
Note the OPs box corners are cut at a 45 degree angle.

Dave, I went the other way. Took my cosmetically challenged 1958 and hard it hard chromed, tuned by Grant Cunningham and then put some elephant ivories by Paul Persinger on it:

My department issued Colt DS saved my life in a 1974 gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects. If anyone has this DS in their collection, serial #689642, pls contact me.
