Beretta Has the New Manurhin MR73 Special Edition
I am sure some of you have been awaiting this new classic. Since I already own a lesser version, I will leave one of these 50 units for the rest of you.

Commemoratives are never worth the money. Unless you have some personal attachment!

While no stranger to spending too much money on high end guns — see my nearby thread on Korths and Manurhins — for what is being offered, the additional ~$7K or so over a regular Manurhin MR73 does not make much sense to me. (To me — I'm sure it will make sense to at least 50 other guys out there, which is absolutely fine, of course.)

I saw a couple of these things at Jaqua’s recently. To say that I was “startled” by the price would be an understatement, but I’m sure the amount will be considered little more than pocket change to buyers who will snap them up in no time. Whatever…

This type of comment is heard quite often from folks that apparently do not like Commemorative things
I think that the comment is both incomplete and unfair
Also there are obviously some folks that confuse the word Commemorative with the word Collectible, one has nothing to do with the other
I happen to like many Commemorative items. However I would never spend Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price when buying a commemorative.
But then I never spend MSRP on a new revolver either
All of that being said I probably own 2-3 dozen Commemorative firearms right at this moment, not a single one of which had the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price paid by me. On some of these I was the original purchaser and on others I purchased them second hand
I would certainly understand if someone said "I would not buy this particular Commemorative at the asking price of $10,999"
Obviously there is some price at which a Commemorative is worth the money because with very few exceptions most all Commemoratives do get sold
I guess I just don't agree with blanket statements on just about anything

Can someone educate me on the Beretta connection here? Are they an importer or something? I note that some of the Manhuris on the GB have Beretta called out as well.

LOL I think you made my point......Commemoratives are generally not worth the asking MSRP.
If they are your thing; then I'm happy for you. If you can get them at wholesale; I'm happy for you.
Ya, they sell but "most folks" don't get their money back if, or when they want to sell or trade them.
Personally, I don't like guns with "Billboards" on them!

Yes, Beretta is the importer for the USA and I also believe Australia. I think it occurred in the 2021 timeframe.
After coming across the second set of pictures for the Special Edition, I frowned when I saw the Billboard. Happily, I can say I like mine better without the Billboard. I also like it better with the original NIL grips.
I also have nothing against commemoratives, but they do seem to fetch less money. I bet they shoot just as well.

On Beretta and the Manurhin connection, Beretta bought Chapuis Armes a few years ago. Chapuis Armes, in turn, had purchased the rights to the Manurhin brand, the manufacturing of the MR73, and the tooling from Manurhin in Mulhouse, France, in 1998. So Beretta today is both the importer and the manufacturer.
