My new favorite EDC knife is.......

My EDC is a CRKT Pazoda with serrated blade. I like it so much that when I lost it I bought a new one. Which is hard because it’s discontinued. When I found my old one I gave the knew one to my son. Last week I sent it through the washer and dryer. The pocket clip screws came out. CRKT gives you free replacement screws and pocket clips. That’s fantastic customer service. And thank goodness because the local hardware store had nothing.

Like the OP, I have settled on a Benchmade Osborn as well. I gave my first Osborn to my youngest son and replaced it with the carbon fiber version. I’ve thought about buying the auto version but I have several auto Benchmades in the drawer so I guess I’ll just keep carrying the regular version.

My best friend of 67 years always carries a cheesy $5 Chinesium copy of a Spyderco with the rear half of the blade serrated. He bought 144 of them on the TV knife show years ago and when they get dull, he throws it out and just grabs another.

The bottom line is he never has a very useful knife that is really super sharp. I did try and sharpen a few for him but the steel is so cheap and crummy, he actually has the right idea - toss it when useless.

Not the way I fly, but it works for him.

I have always carried a knife (Gibb's Rule #9!) and for years have used Kershaw ZT assisted openers of one model or other.
Lately I have heard good things about Spartan knives and so I am trying out a Poro model (Horrors! Taiwan!) as a ZT replacement--longer blade and pointier.
We shall see...

Food for ambiguous thought.

Whenever I want to cut to the bone, I break out the pen. It is mightier than the sword. If used properly, it can work doing many things. Open carry in your top pocket is great.
I choose the right knife for the occasion, according to where I might be going.

I can "outdraw" most with a pen, also.

Seriously, I like a Puma folder. Can't find a picture on the web. Bought 30-35 years ago. Comes with a 4 1/2" blade. No wiggle. Tight like the day I bought it. Holds an edge very well.

Without getting into the whole discussion of liner-lock, lock-back, axis lock, spring-assist, automatic, blade material, etc. knives, all that aside I think I finally decided on my favorite EDC knife. The Benchmade Osborn. It's the perfect size/weight for EDC. Solid construction, smooth action, very sharp. I still like my others but if I had to choose just one it would be the Osborn.

I've got a couple of Benchmade knives, received both as gifts. One is a 531 non-assisted, the other is a 2551 automatic. I use the 2551 frequently as a carry, it's small and light. For daily work use, it's usually one of two SOG assisted opening knives.

Personally, my most common carry knives are either a Buck 110 or a Cold Steel Ti-Lite.

I have several 110's and 112's, myself.

FWIW, Buck is offering some interesting sale-priced 110's as Web Exclusives for Father's Day. Pretty affordable considering they have the optional S30 steel. Even one in nickel w/drop point.

Not new but my usual EDC. I think it's a Schrade Extreme (Taiwan SC70) but I can't read it for sure. It's been a good reliable knife. Holds an edge pretty well and sharpens easily enough.

It's an automatic. It has a lock. I think I got it before the lock patent suites.

I won't carry an automatic or assisted opener without a lock. I had them open in my pocket too many times.

I'm too hard on EDC knives to justify a high dollar knife for daily use. I had (or have somewhere) a less expensive Gerber that was a flip open much like a Spider that I used extensively. It was a USA blade. It was a bit hard to sharpen but held an edge very well. It's missed. Maybe it'll show up again some day.

I also have a cheap Chinese Gerber I like that resides in my yard work shorts. Not auto or assisted but the perfect size IMHO. A aluminum handle liner lock. The blade says 4660521A if that means anything. I think similar in size to that Benchmade Osborn.

Originally on duty I carried a Schrade lock back. A Buck 110 clone I guess. Later I went to a a Buck lite lock back. I even cut grooves in the back of the blade so I could flip it open one handed.

One I lost that I miss was an earlier Gerber lock back. It had some rather thick reddish colored wood scales. The blade was a sandwich type as I recall.

Someone wanted a picture of a Puma folder - this is their Prince model:

iscs-yoda-albums-blades-picture25904-puma-prince.jpg

It's used for decoration on a shelf in my living room with a number of other knives. It jus' beez dat weigh - I have lots of knives to qualify for EDC.

Here's another:

Called a Longhorn, custom-made or maybe semi-custom-made by Lone Wold Knives. It is a beautiful knife, the wood scales are magnificent, fit to finish is perfect.

I just looked them up online. Found this:

Lone Wolf Knives are known for their intricate detailing work and innovative design. Each knife is handcrafted and decorated with beautifully finished materials. These knives are truly examples of the art of knife making. Quality and attention to detail is highly evident in each knife, and it’s clear that the legacy of Lone Wolf Knives is defined by their commitment to high quality blades.

All very nice gentlemen. Wish these blades were around when I was growing up. Seems ya either bought a bone handle or leather handle hunting knife or one of those folders from Imperial or Schrade with the polished blades that would close up on your fingers. Sure a great selection these days of folder and fixed. My Puma Skinner is the only one I kept from the 60s. Thanks to all for giving me some fresh ideas.

I’ve owned multiple Benchmade knives including a couple of the Osborne models. The axis locks are great for Lefties. Most recently I’ve switched to Demko AD20.5 for my EDC knives, usually with the sharkfoot blade. I find the shark lock to be even more left hand friendly and they may be more durable than the axis lock. Price point for entry level AD20.5 knives seems to be more reasonable than comparable quality Benchmade knives

My current EDC's are this Robbie Dalton and my old Al Mar.

Going back to 1979, the big Gerber was in my left combat boot every time I put my flight suit on. The leather conformed to my left ankle pretty well but I kept the blade so sharp it cut through the sheath. Then about 1991 I started to carry the Benchmade in the left inside leg pocket of my flight suit. Much more civilized. ;)

The Dalton and Al Mar are in my pocket whenever my pants are on.

My EDC has changed. Through my youth and college years, I carried and used a Old Timer 8OT. Excellent. All I needed. Then, while working in some not so nice places in New Orleans, carried a Buck Duke since it would not close on my hand. When I moved back to Ga., I carried a Buck Lancer that was given to me by my brother. Carried it for years and years. Still have it. He also gave me a Gerber Knight. Nice Sunday morning knife. Things changed in 1998 when I got burned. Got a Benchmade Auto Bench Mite since I could open it w/ my right hand. Wonderful knife! Few years later got a Benchmade Presidio Auto. Carried it everywhere for the next 24 years. Still carry it. But, odd as it may seem, I've made a change. I recovered use of my left hand so I could open a standard knife. One of our fellow board members put up a 8OT and a Kabar camper knife for sale. Bought them. The 80T was identical to what I carried as a young man, identical to what I gave my father the year I got married (1979). The Kabar was in my eyes the Scout knife I never had. Even found a NIB Case Scout knife, which I carry when the mood strikes me. Have bought several pretty Remington Bullet knives, two of which I gave to my daughters. Nowadays, I carry either one of the camping knifes ... or the 8OT. Guess I've come full circle! Those early knives were wonderful. So thankful to again have the Old Timer. All of those knives were a pleasure to own and use. But, that 8OT ... makes me think of many years ago. It was what my father carried. First knife I ever bought with my own money. Sincerely. bruce.

I’ve been carrying a Kershaw for years. I bought this Benchmade Shootout a few months ago and it has become my EDC. It’s a nice knife.
