Picked up this ol' girl today after work. Recently ended a long term relationship and had been feeling pretty down, and I do believe this will brighten my brighten my mood! Had been looking for an older Combat Commander for some time now, you don't see them everyday. Not perfect, but she's original and pretty clean for the most part.

Nice one. Still kicking myself for getting rid of mine many years ago.

They're OK, I guess ....

A 1967 made version -

And an about 1992 version -

Each one is a little "wrong" in that the 1967 should have brown plastic with the Colt emblem and the '92 - not sure but the "tree bark" wood isn't right. But I kind of like them so unless I can figure out how to get the plastic Colt ones to fit (they shrink if left off the gun) I guess they'll stay on there.

I like the flat MSH, may change out the older for one.

I have two that are not a set, but you would think they were matched at the factory. A 1968 in 38 Super and a 1971 in 45. My preferred holster is a Galco Small of the Back model. The 45 gets a POA/POI match with any 230 grain ammo except Remington.

Blue steel & Black walnut.

Congrats.

Make sure you get a fresh recoil spring in it. Last 70's Commander I bought has an ever so slight crack forming at the dust cover.

After adding Harrision Custom sights.

After starting my LE career carrying a 66 and a 60 when I lived on Marthas Vineyard with the salt air, I moved to Colorado. After being bitten by the Jeff Cooper disease I switched to carrying a 1911 of some configuration for probably 25 of my over 36 years. I did carry a BHP a bit as well. I had Commanders, Combat Commanders and 5 inch ones over the years. I carried them on and off duty exclusively. I still own two customs but they are full length, not Commander length. I think I will have to fix that. I still love the platform although, I carry striker fired stuff and snub's most of the time these days. I've often said that I could sell off all my other semi autos and be very happy going back to a 1911 for my main carry!

Wow, I love guns like that, as I've probably typed before. Used, well cared for and have a story to tell.

The lighter colored, almost dried looking, wood on the right grip panel says something. It looks like that guy rode outdoors in a holster somewhere for along time.

Congratulations.
