Hi friends! I couldn't pass up a very nice old Star Firestar M40 at the local pawn shop with the box for $250 today. It seems to work just fine, but I always prefer to know how to disassemble older guns in case I need to replace springs or parts. I have looked everywhere but can't find anything. Does anyone happen to have an idea where to find a tutorial or video please?
Thank you, Dave

I've attached a picture of one like mine I found online to refresh your memories! ;)

Oh yeah, me too!! Haha!!!! Not all handguns are idiot-proof, and I've fallen victim to almost all of them!! That being said, I'd sure like to find out how to do a total disassembly on this one before I fall again!!!

A friend and I both bought one of those many years ago. Those little pistols were really accurate and dirt cheap.

I had one ages ago. Fit my hand really well but developed a problem. The slide lock is (or at least was) a two part affair. If you fired the gun a fair bit with full power loads, which I did, the cross piece actually bent. This made the slide lock actually jam because the part that interacted with the magazine follower would jam in the magazine between the follower and the mag body. Jam VERY HARD. AFter going thru two of them I had my gunmaker weld up the head of a new one where the two parts intersected to see if that would help. It didn't. I got rid of it. Darn shame because it fit my barely average size hand really well.

I did read some of these were prone to soft metal problems, yet others say theirs's stood up to hundreds of rounds over the years. I believe this one has not been fired much by the looks of it and I don't shoot any of my guns any more than maybe 100 rounds. I'm just too fickle and move from one handgun to the next which is NOT good for the budget! Yoi!!!!!!! Thanks!!! Sorry yours was a problem.
