Have You Ever Found A Gun In Your Safe You Have No Memory Of?
I found a Pietta 44 Cal engraved and unfluted in my safe when cleaning my firearms. It is mint and unfired. I have no idea where it came from or what it is.
Anyone else come across a firearm that you were not aware of? LOL

a Ruger P-89 9mm and a Ruger P-90 .45acp. Found in a out of the way closet shelf far removed from the Smith and Wessons.

Yes. I have a 4" Model 10, square butt. Have absolutely no idea how I acquired the gun. It turned up during an inventory. Still have not solved the mystery.

You should be keeping records of each and every firearms purchase you make, and the least of these reasons would be to enable you to recall where a particular firearm came from.

I posted this over on Colt Forum also
I was looking for a particular pistol that I had a spare magazine for.
(A Beretta 21A.) Whilst diggin' round for it I found an FN model 1906 in amongst an assortment of Colt model Ns & FN 1906s. I don't have any recollection of it, but there it is just the same. Oddly, I found an envelope containing $1750 in there, too. No idea about that, either. Hmmm........Oh well....Happy day!

Found 3 guns in the attic of a house I bought (years after I bought it). Does that count?

Equally important is a record of every firearm you sold/traded/gave away.

Reloading stuff
I have never found a Gun that I have forgotten
about.
I have found reloading components that I
forgot I had. That was a bonus when I
started reloading for my new 41Rem Mag!
Have a good day.

I have several guns that are either sentimental or family inherited guns, so I keep several lists of every gun that I own. I have one list with all the descriptions and serial numbers. I also have another list of how they were obtained or who owned them prior to me. I also have a third list for individual guns (Springfield M-1's) that list each gun part by part. When my kids get them, they will know the history of each one with the lists. I do have accoutrements that I have forgotten about due to the old age syndrome of CRS!

I would think that if you have guns you've forgotten about, then whatever it is one gets out of collecting them it is not about the guns. It is about something else. What? I have no idea.
Not that there's anything wrong with that....

Yup. In fact I just found a Brazilian Contract 1937 .45acp revolver that I had totally forgotten I had. It needs work and I might just get rid of it rather than have it repaired.

A CZ 52 in 9 MM. Yes, a "Civilian" CZ 52 that I bought during the glory day's of Curio & Relic. Polished blue slide to make it more desirable. I vaguely remember buying it along with a whole herd of C&R guns.

As milsurp guy, I am in mortal danger of this affliction. I opened a rifle case to discover a Russian refurbished k98k with intact dirty birds (I know, weird) that I had no memory of buying. Usually, I can recall my buys because it was a gun show score or one that slipped by the herd during an online estate auction. A search of my emails came up blank, but it did remind me about a couple of killer buys I made. I have a banker's box full of receipts that might reveal information. Guess I should download Libre Office and get typing.

No but I have forgotten where I put one of my carry guns from time to time when I hid them someplace or left them in a vehicle for some reason. Jimmy, have been waiting for the money you owe me and was about to post a scam alert, so please get it sent off to me ASAP.

In my experience, Model 94 rifles, S&W revolvers, CZ-75 pistols, Beretta 81 series pistols and PP series pistols all breed when two or more are left in a gun safe

Yep
We are all getting older and prone to forgetting things. Finding a nice 44 revolver you don't remember trading for is just a bonus of having a good collection and enjoying life. Carry on sir.

Not that I forget that I have it,,
I never take it out,,
I always grab the M1 with the extension tube, and tritium sites,,
The "plane Jane" M1 just sets and waits,,
I bought them both when M1 was the "THING!",,
So I have had them a while,,

The Nazi eagles with the Swastika in their claws. During refurb, the Russians usually had a Vlad or Ludmilla with a punch defacing the Swastikas. Guess they were on a vodka break when my rifle came in.

So do I, that's why I was shocked to find a firearm that I have no idea where it came from or even jogged my memory. I just added it to my list. Not a big fan of black powder guns so that may be why I forgot about it.

I've got a Russian capture K 98 and it is very well made and a fine shooter. The "Dirty Birds" are still there and a friend has one that Vladimir stamped out. As mentioned above, the Vodka break probably had something to do with it.

Sort of similar, but years ago I thought I had left a S&W model 38 in a Florida hotel room. The gun was very special to me because in 1971 my partner shot and killed a guy with it who was trying to shoot me. I bought it from him a few months later. My wife and fellow officer was shot and killed on 12/31/84. Her father died two years later from cancer. I stayed close to my mother in law until she died. Around 2007 before she passed away she called me and wanted me to look at a gun she had. It was my model 38. My wife had loaned it to her father right before she was killed. I got my MIL another J frame .38 and got the model 38 back. I still have it. My son knows all about it. It will go to him when the dirt nap comes.

I’ve forgotten about firearms that I’ve had in the past because they’ve been in the backs of safes for so long but I can’t recall ever finding one I have no knowledge of whatsoever.

While looking for a Colt .22, I discovered a Smith 34-1 that I have NO memory of buying, or even looking at for that matter.
I've had this happen with other guns before as well. When one's collection gets above 150, I would think this is easy to do.

yes... While organizing a box with old Mint Set coins.
Tucked in with the coins, was a box about the same dimensions as the others, but with a sleeve.
It was a Berretta M2 Minx.
I don't remember buying it, or even why I would want to.
The receipt was in the box, from a Tampa FL gun store, with my signature, dated 1982.
It needed a little cleaning and Lube, but works just fine.

uh, like an LC Smith side by side shotgun, a remington pump action 22, and a single shot .22lr. I think. I don't think I have any of them any more. Maybe the 12g shotgun, I would have to dig through my stuff. Nothing I really cared about. No reg mags.
But they were all so rusted up from being rolled into a carpet that while the internals were fine-ish, the externals were a complete mess.

A Kimber Warrior...bought a Wilson Combat shortly after and promptly forgot about the Kimber. Once I rediscovered it I have shot it a good deal. Nice pistol.

@Terry G, I had a factory 9mm CZ-52. It jammed on every shot.

I know of every firearm I own. I have misplaced one or two before. Like a Colt SP1 rifle. I reorganized the safe and moved it from the front to the back. I forgot I reorganized the safe. So, when I opened it, I didn't see it and spent the day looking throughout the house, until I remembered... "duh, it is in the back of the safe, I reorganized it!"

Absolutely. Have found one or two or three or four ( ) over the years in safe 'cleanups' that I had no memory whatsoever of acquiring. But, we're talking in the thousands due to a 60 year catch and release program so I don't feel too bad.

No, but one time I found a little Beretta .25 acp that had been missing for a year or two. I knew it wasn't stolen, just "misplaced". Found it in a pocket of a winter coat hanging in the closet...

I use the return envelopes from begging letters to keep a record of the acquisition of each firearm. If a firearm is disposed of the envelope is transferred to the separate bag for transferred firearms.
One concern I haven't seen here is the possible tax implications relating to the transfer of a firearm. Having good records allows me to inform my accountant whether I had a gain or not on a transfer.

Rock,
Just cleaned out my desk. Found two file folders of receipts. Have not counted how many there are. Not sure I want to know.........It is what I get for a lot of buying, selling and trading toys for years.

This exact thing happened to me too. Keeping in mind I have way too many. I opened one of my aafes and there in the front was an early 50's western feild EJN 757. I thought wow that's interesting a control feed mauser action. Took me awhile to remember I bought it about 5 years ago for about $350. It's in very nice condition and all original. I figured it's about time to organize and write information down before it's forgotten again.
