I purchased this new 9mm 1911 in December of last year. It came from the factory with a single sided safety. I replaced that safety with a new KIMBER Pinned Ambidextrous Safety. The only other thing I needed to do to make this gun perfect was to replace the way overpowered mainspring with a reduced power mainspring.

This gun comes with an integral feed ramp on the barrel.

This is the best fitting 1911 I have ever owned. Slide to frame and barrel to slide are what I would expect from a custom gun costing at least $1,500 more than I paid for this one! :)

I bought one of the aluminum framed 9mm ones last fall; been very happy with it so far. They do seem to be well built. And I like your idea with the ambi safety; I'll have to give that some thought. Happy shooting!

I have the same gun in 10mm, and although I haven't gotten to a range with it, I will agree about the tightness, both of the barrel to slide and the slide to frame. I find the trigger to be very good. The barrel itself is a beauty. I've paired mine with Wilson Combat 47NX nine-round magazines.

Hopefully, it will live up to these first impressions. How does yours shoot?

Drakenfast, does your 10mm Ronin have a fully ramped barrel?

D Brown, sorry to drift a bit here. I have been looking at Ronins for some time, musing on which one I might buy. The .45 is the natural choice for me, but 9s are certainly less expensive to buy primers for, at this time. I have a few pieces of SPP 10mm brass but not enough to matter. Ditto with SPP .45 brass.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Ronin pistols. Thanks for your information and congrats on your new pistol.

Regarding SPP 10mm brass, Northeast Reloading has once fired @ 500 for $70 (2x 250 count)...:)

Cheers!

P.S. There were less than 5 cases I culled after tumbling with SS pins and those were mostly for cosmetic purposes.

I have one in 9mm also. Mine is a very early one marked Ronin Operator from right after they were announced. I agree, these are very nice 1911's. I am right handed and left the stock safety in.

Things I felt I needed to do.

Replace the stock 9# recoil spring with a heavier one. Tried 12# and ended up with an 11 pound Wolff spring. Went ahead and replaced the XXP firing pin spring with XP one that comes in the Wolff spring package.

Replace the thin grips (and bushings) with Challis bushings and some nice grips from Culina.

Removed the white paint from the rear sight dots and put black paint in.

Things I did just because I liked them better.

Switched out the blue recoil spring plug for a stainless one.

Replaced the firing pin stop with a Wilson BP one only because I had it and it fit a little better.

Added some Grip tape to the front strap

I use Stock magazines, Wilson 920 flush base, and also have one each Ed Brown 9 shot mag and a Tripp 10 shot mag and they all work perfectly. My Ronin did not like Wilson ETM magazines

I'll have to report on that at a later date. At present, the gun hasn't been to the range.
