What did I get for my 40th anniversary? A Colt.
This is probably in bad taste on a S&W forum, but I didn't own any Colt revolvers. My wife bought me this new Colt Python. I have two Colt 1911's and a Colt Competition AR15.
This one has a 5" barrel. I like it. The hard case could be nicer, but it's ok. They cram everything in a blue plastic case that's about 3" thick. I bought a new Canik Rival-S and the case for it is super nice.

You're gonna love it. Pythons tend to reproduce...you'll find out!

Congrats on 45 years! I’m envious.
I knew right away that was a 5. You have good taste, thanks for posting.
A month ago, I took the hammer and trigger out of my 5 inch Python. That was easy to do, and reassemble. Fear not. I sent them to Mike Heffron. I got the parts back 3 days ago. He stamps your hammer where you can’t see it when the gun is assembled, Cool! Single action is a very nice 2 pounds, 4 ounces. DA is a bit over 8.
Then I went a bit overboard and put a Wilson rear sight on. I believe I now have a revolver that is as good as anything ever made in the USA. I’ve never owned a Korth, or Mahuren. So I can’t confidently say “the world”. But I’ll bet it’d be close. lol

Well, happy anniversary! You're' going enjoy that snake gun, for sure.
I have the 6" Python. I don't dare handle the 5" when I'm at the gun stores. I have a 5" 27-2, therefore I don't need the 5" Python.
I just have to keep repeating that.

Gun and wife are both keepers. You're a lucky man! Congrats on the anniversary.

Hmmm, a 5 inch….bet those and the 3 inch versions will be the ones to go up more in value in the future. Congratulations on both counts!

Thank you for the comments! The Colt and the wife are definitely keepers.
I have a 5 inch 27-2 en route to me. Should be here next Tuesday. It will be interesting to compare them.
I bought one of the new 629 mountain guns around the same time as the Colt. The Colt sure seems to emit quality more so than the 629. It did cost more, but only around $300.

Important things in life.
I'm a Smith & Wesson man myself, but those Colts sure are purdy! My wife and I celebrated 60 years last year. Having an understanding wife is so important to a gun enthusiast!

Isn't that the truth. A couple of days ago, I had to run to my FFL shop and pick up my 19-2. I told her where I was going and she asked if I had told her about it. I couldn't remember. She was OK with it. She knows I have another gun on the way, too...

I'm in the same boat. Would have bought a 5" if it had been available in late 2021.

Just picked it up. Sure makes for a nice pair. I hope I don't start slipping down a rabbit hole like I did with my S&Ws

If you have to make that statement...it's already too late...the slide into the rabbit hole has already started. It's just a matter of how fast the velocity down it picks up.

I’ve been getting along quite well with my Five. I was having a good day, so I decided to sit down and get all squinty eyed. I had the good sense to not try to duplicate this. It may never happen again. But it shows the potential of these new Colts.
And I’ll also give credit where credit is due. This one has Mike Heffron’s Component Parts trigger jobs. It also sports a Wilson rear sight. Plus, I borrowed the grip off my six inch Anaconda.

27 yards? That's excellent. Your eyes are obviously much better than mine. I can shoot a fair group at 27 (25) yards but that's just me trying to center the sights on the center of the blur consistently.

As I get older, I have more trouble with open sights. If I wear my glasses, I can see the target, but the sights are blurry. If I don't wear them, I can see the sights, but the target is blurry.
I recently bought a Canik SFx Rival S and put a Holosun 507comp red dot on it. I can see that. I didn't know much about Canik, but I now think it's one of the nicest 9mm in it's price range.

There’s no way I could shoot iron sights with glasses. I have contacts from a good optometrist.
I shoot a red dot a little better. But a good old scope is still the beat em all best. And I need sand bags, Mike’s trigger, Bill’s rear sight, good light, stars in proper alignment, lots of luck.
There’s a member on here that recently got a Ransom rest. I hope he clamps one of these new Colts down and shows us what they can really do.

The Colt Python is now the best new production revolver you could have bought - IMHO of course! What a great wife!

I really like the looks of the new Colt Viper. The only Colt that I currently own is a 1964 Colt Trooper. I had just about convinced myself to get a Viper but I wound up with a Ruger Speed Six instead.

Otis, get your Viper. That Ruger won’t be jealous if you have both. Go!
Just in case you think those Super Model Five Inch Pythons are high maintenance, I would beg to differ.
I’ve been wanting to try a cast bullet in my 357 since cast works so well in the Anacondas.
These bullets don’t like to go fast. When I backed down the powder charge, success.
The gun is currently zeroed for 140 FLX going 1350. But I think the cast will group right with my 158 XTP at 1275fps when I re-zero. *Shout out to the Wilson rear sight.*The Colt sight is ok. I still have a couple. The Wilson sight is simply more positive, it stays put, and the clicks make small adjustments automatic/ predictable. The juice is worth the squeeze.

Vance’s?
I’ll ask the guys at the gunshop next time I’m in there to buy more. It appears to me that the gunshop repackaged them. Not for sure tho.
I ran 5 of those cast loads thru my new Marlin 1894, 357. They were running just over 1200 fps. They grouped around an inch and a half at 30 yards.
