Ugly, work well and accurate. I have always found them wildly overpriced for what you get. That seems to be a core component of anything HK.

Mine is a 40. Very rugged handgun. They have passed some pretty rugged reliability tests. Always nice to buy a quality firearm at a reduced price.

A 9mm USP was the first brand new pistol I ever purchased. They had just come out and I wanted one bad. I kept it quite a while, can't remember why I got rid of it. I've since picked up a stainless 40 and a 45, the 40 being my "go to" home defense weapon. Hands down one of the best pistols I've ever owned, both reliable and accurate. Extra mags tend to be on the expensive side. Too big to carry concealed, it is a full sized duty gun and fills that role superbly.

My first HK was a USP40 issued by my department. I purchased it when I retired. I liked it so much I bought a USP9 & USP45. For whatever reason USP9 magazines have usually been cheaper than the other HK mags. You won’t regret buying it.

I've always wanted a HK USP. Now too pricey for me.

I bought a USP 40C at a pawn shop a few years ago. It shoots very well. The mags can be expensive. The magazine release can be hard on the thumb after a few magazines, since it's pressed with the side of the thumb.

I own an H&K USP45 Elite which I absolutely love. Granted that it's a Target Pistol variant, but it has given me a decidedly positive opinion of the USP in general.
Also, prices on USPs are absolutely ridiculous right now, so if you've found one for a price thats actually good, like south of $800 good, then go for it.

The HK P8/P8 A1 is just a slightly different variant of the USP and is the side arm of the German military, where it replaced the P1 in 1992.
I have owned a USP in .45 and have a 9mm USP and P8 A1 now and they are easy to shoot and accurate guns.
I shot the P8 in military matches for some years and the average shooter generally got better results with the P8 than with the Walther P1.

Do you know what the detail changes were with the A1 variant?
It wasn’t a straight replacement, by the way. The P8 was phased in over most of a decade. A friend who served in a repair unit (Instandsetzungsbataillion) has told me they still had the P1 in the early 2000s. And it‘s still officially in use with the ceremonial Wachbatallion (guards) in white leather.

I had that exact gun. It was the easiest-shooting pistol I’ve ever had. Totally reliable - that thing didn’t know how to malfunction.
My niece’s husband (nephew-in-law?) was a young soldier then and she wanted to get him one because he fell in love with mine when he shot it. She didn’t realize they were so pricey. I had gotten a good deal on mine at a police supply place (I think under 7 bills) so I sold it to her for a chunk under that.
I’d buy another one in a heartbeat.

The P8 A1 has added corrosion resistance and a reinforced slide after some problems with cracked slides.
I shot the last P1s around 2010/2012 in the German reserve and it was then said that the Bundeswehr only had about 1,500 P1s left.
Incidentally, I shot a 9mm USP yesterday and have to say that HK guns are very well built.

No experience with the 9mm versions, but the USP is my favorite semi automatic pistol. Two here but in .40 and .45.
Excellent pistols but as noted they are large and blocky in design.

I have 2 USPs, 1 in 45 and 1 in 9mm. If I had to sell all my pistols but one I would keep the USP 9!

I have the Expert .45. Very well constructed but large. Hard to say anything bad about it. Nice sights I think.
