I picked up the Rock Island Armory 22 TCM high capacity (17 rounds) 1911.

First impressions are good. Fit and finish good and the trigger is excellent. I'm really impressed with the smooth, light trigger. No creep and it breaks clean. I have 6 other 1911's to compare it too.

The gun comes with two barrels. The 22 TCM barrel and a 9mm barrel.

The .22 TCM is based on the .223 Remington case. It's a bottlenecked cartridge shortened so that the shoulder is at approximately the same length as the case mouth of a 9x19mm cartridge.

The 22 TCM round moves pretty fast. Approximately 2000 fps out of a 5" barrel. Standard factory loads are 40-grain JHP.

I have fired about 150 rounds of .22TCM out of it and it was a blast. The gun is very accurate and functioned flawlessly.

It is, in effect, RIA's answer to the almost unavailable - and expensive - 5.7 x 28 FN cartridge, isn't it?

I am always intrigued about the "stopping power" of such rounds.

RIA makes excellent .45s, and I am glad to see the .22 TCM works well. How many magazines are supplied with the pistol? Do the two calibers use the same magazine?

Congratulations on the new purchase.

Just for the record, the 17 round magazines are the standard capacity magazines designed for this firearm. No high capacity magazines have been designed to the best of my knowledge.

The 22TCM is a very fun cartridge. It shoots amazingly flat.

Standard Para Ordnance 38 Super magazines is what this firearm uses. So they are readily available from MecGar.

With a 38 Super barrel you can add a third cartridge to the pistol. I am certain the choice of supplying the 9MM barrel revolved around common availability of 2nd caliber.

I am presently working on handloads with 9 different jacketed projectiles from Barnes, Speer, Hornady and Nosler along with a few cast projectile designs. The data should be ready for publication in January or February.

The RIA TCM comes with only one 17 round magazine.

The same magazine is use for both 9mm and 22TCM.

I had the opportunity to handle and put as few rounds through a couple of these about 2 years ago. I was impressed, literally no recoil, 2200 fps, very reliable and accurate. I do own both a 45 and 9mm 3 1/2" compact 1911's from RIA.

They have had a 22TCM rifle on their website for a long time I've never seen one.
