Just thought this cheap little old gun might amuse you guys

As to what they did to it I think they put some serrations in the backstrap, the barrel looks to be a replacement with the text in totally the wrong place. The front sight is, well I think you can see for yourself what it is. of course its also been fitzed. There's a hole in the butt which I think maybe was for some home brew lanyard ring, but it's not present. The frame has been ground on for some purpose.

Pretty sure it started life as a pocket positive from 1920. No idea when it was improved.

Crazy thing is that the action is fantastic and the sight picture is too. It may look like it looks but I expect it's going to be fun as heck at the range.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I really like how the removed trigger guard feels in the hand. I can see how dudes back in the day would get addicted to having a gun like this.

Edit: Been getting questions about the front sight:

Outstanding. The only improvement that I see needs to be made is... replace the masking tape with duct tape (you can even get it in colors now).

It's actually athletic tape, and it feels remarkably good in the hand. I might go with another color athletic tape, easy enough to change out.

There is no explaining some member's taste :D , but it is a Colt ;) on the S&W Forum  .

Some things just need to be rescued.

Bah, at $85 I can forgive a lot.

Honestly I've long wanted to see what the deal with these old Fizted guns were, but to spend actual money on it seemed stupid. I'm very happy to get one for peanuts to play around with.

I don't know what that front sight is. Please educate me.

I think it's basically a bolt (or like, an actual bolt) that the guy threaded onto the end of the barrel and then shaped to his needs.

Beyond that I'm not really sure. I expect some guys with more experience in gunsmithing might be able to explain something regarding it (if there is more to say).

Not to disagree with a fellow collector, but I believe the period-correct fitment would be several large rubber bands.

That actually looks to be a "Futz" special.

Congrats on your newest! :)

I've been looking for something like that to make into a "Fitz" or one premade.

I kind of like the "Bolt" front sight, not that I'll be adding it to any of my handguns though. :D

Still trying

A "bolt" would have plugged the barrel -- even a Colt has its limits. I believe the correct fastener technical term is NUT. There are 2 per colt or individually at the hardware store.

The opportunities from this thread rival P&R's yellow thong. :) :) :) ;)

I just love that price! ! ! !

I think Bolt got stuck in my head because the similarities to this gun and

are far too strong in my mind. And he had Neck Bolts.

Do you or are you going to shoot .32 S&W longs in it?

Action seems A-Ok. So I expect I will at some point yes.

Despite how it looks I think its an entirely serviceable weapon. Not that I would ever carry it, but as a range toy I expect it will be most enjoyable.

Actually, you are both wrong. The proper, period-correct dressing for the stocks is neither duct tape, athletic tape or rubber bands. It should be black friction tape.

I like it, it looks like a gun that was loved.
I bet it shoots really well too.

That's certainly an American Classic. It's so butt ugly it's cute. Let us know how it shoots when you get it out to the range.

Wow! That front sight is quite.....innovative. I always like it when somebody goes "outside the box" to solve a problem. And that nut is about as "outside the box" as you can get.....they did some nice work on the ramp sight installation. Not going to win any beauty contests, but it is functional & at the end of the day that is what counts. Probably be a good shooter. Nice photo work also.
