Default Norinco 56-1S (AK 47)

I’ve debated with myself for years whether I should get an AK. I’m not particularly attracted by the platform as I am more of an AR-15 enthusiast. But I guess every half decent gun collection should have a least one. So I finally took the plunge on a cheap but well made Chinese Norinco 56-1S for $ 650.-. I already had a very good experience with my NDM-86 (Dragunov). Came with three mags, sling, mag pouch oiler and cleaning kit.

Took it straight to the 50 m indoor range. It’s more accurate than I thought

I had some ammo from an old lot purchase, Russian and Czech

With the big brother

Quite happy with this purchase

So I guess you're somewhere in between these two guys:

Great score, and a pretty good price considering today's market.

I love the AK platform, more so than the AR (although I own both), so any AK is a good AK in my book.

Congrats!

Excellent price. The Norinco's I've owned or shot were all super reliable and we rode them hard with the drum magazines when they first hit the U.S.

Christ on a crutch! That's 2005 money! You stole that, I hope you realize........ excellent choice. Any of the pre 89 ban guns, made at the actual arsenals are as good as it gets......damn......
Major congrats!

Very nice indeed. I myself was never a fan of the folding stock AK's, but the do look cool.

I don’t say it in every thread I start, but I live in Switzerland, different market and different prices.

I will shamelessly admit that I like the look of the folding stock while recognising it’s an inferior contraption when it comes to shooting.

I went the same route when I chose my HK MP5 A3

Being Swiss I'm surprised you do not have the third pin above the trigger and the middle position on the selector. That would be a great price in the U.S. for a type 56-1S. AK's are great, except when they are pointed at you.

We can find both semis and full auto Norcs or other AKs here. Full autos are more expensive and the paperwork is a bit more hassle.

I fell victim to the "every collection should have one" a while back... ended up with an "on the boat when the ban started" Chinese AK that was beaten into submission and compliance... well made neutered AK... shot it a few times and put it in the back of the safe.. I am more of a M1A guy...
