Default I'm really tired of losing my messages from "not signed in" when I am signed in

The first thing I do every time I hit this site is SIGN IN.

I try to start a message and upon Save, the system says you are not logged in.

OK, there must be some kind of secret timer that goes off after an unknown period.

I just experienced my fifth experience of losing the entire post I had just written over 30 minutes. I can only assume that I took too long between what the system saw as inactive and logged me out. I do not start over !!! too frustrated at that point.

I then followed the system prompts to sign in and then it says hit the back key and refresh. You lose the message. I think I actually got back once.

Anybody else see this? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I haven't but you might send your post to the Forum Office section at the bottom and maybe they can shed some light on it.

I discussed this problem with forum staff in the Office sub forum years ago. They wrote that the forum does not log you off. Your own browser does. There are a couple ways to assure that you do not loose what you typed. While you are composing a reply occasionally scroll the whole forum page up or down. That keeps the page active in your browser so it does not log you out. As a back up you can copy your reply as though you were going to paste it into a Word document. Then if you find yourself logged out after hitting Post Reply you can log back in and paste your reply into the reply box.

I sometimes open another window and go the site again before submitting a long post. Then bounce back to what you have just typed and submit. That has been a quick and easy way for me not to lose a lot of bad typing.

Do you check the "Keep Me Signed In" box?

(Although I may not be much help since I've never typed anything on this forum for 30 minutes straight . . . )

Are you using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser?

I ask because I had the same issue several years ago. I switched to Google Chrome and all my browser issues went away.

FYI - This is from our IT guru:

As a friend of mine said - IE isn't a browser, it is a tool you use to go onto the internet to download a real browser.

As an addendum to Chad's post, even Microsoft no longer supports IE.

Wow, guys, thanks.

Some great ideas.

I use Chrome. I have no other sites where my own browser logs me out. I have never heard of such a thing from a browser, even IE.

I wasn't typing the whole time. I occasionally look up, have a drink, go potty. It happens. The post in question was on reloading and I had even gone to my logs and been very careful in what I stated.
Your comment "Keep Me Signed In" box looks like a ready solution.

appreciate the help. I may not have much to say of any value, but it's horrible to lose what looked like a good detailed post on handloading.

thanks again
