Link Alerts vs Full Page Click Bait?

I am confused why we get an intermediary "Are you sure?" alert screen prior to accessing an external link, but have full page "click-bait & fake-news" ads show when scrolling back and forth between forum pages. Seems kind of non-sequiter to be so concerned with links, but OK with the later intrusive junk. I am fine with banner ads and chum boxes, I know it's necessary to pay the bills, but full page "news stories" on CBD oil or Amish portable fire places are too much.

Does anyone else experience these full page ads? They seem to predominantly occur when navigating back from a given thread to an index page.

We've had problems with unauthorized pop-up ads. They shouldn't be here and our IT guy is working on it.
