I looked at several S&W knifes and they look pretty good
to me,especially for the money. I know they are made in
China or Taiwan. What is your opinion? Thanks Don:)

I have had a few in the past and have been unimpressed with them. I found they did not hold an edge and the lockwork was not up to hard use. I prefer CRKT, Cold Steel, Victorinox, Kabar, Buck, and Spyderco knives for my low end hard working blades. I have seen a few of the rare US made knives that looked much better than the Taiwan made knives but I have not used one.

The S&W knives imported by Taylor Cutlery are nice knives for the money which is in the $25 range. They are not as nice as a Buck or CRKT in the $75 range or a really nice knife like the Chris Reeve Sebenza for $450. There certainly is a point on the quality scale where you are buying, and paying for, more knife than one really needs. That is something each must decide for themselves.

Generally cool looking knives of mediocre quality and performance. Usually cheap imports that won't stand up to heavy daily use. On the plus side---if you break one or lose one, it's no big deal...........one eye joe

i collect all major brands of tactical knives and can tell you the imported simth wesson knives are o.k. users but have no collector value. when you find the early knives that where made in the u.s.a. grab them they are sought after by knife and smith & wesson collectors a like.

I picked up a Smith & Wesson Border Guard folder (Made in China) a few weeks back for a few bucks. No issues so far and I've been working it hard since it was so cheap. The lock up is tight and the blade is very strong. Not as sharp as my Kershaws are, but strong.

I'd pick up more if a good deal presented itself.

I picked up a S&W "special tactical" folder with tanto blade and a S&W "homeland security" folder with a urban camo drop point blade. Both are pretty nice blades, sharp, nice lock-up, easy foldout. I got them at a Big 5 sporting goods discounter on one of thier weekly sales for $11.00ea. they were regular priced $49.99!!

They always have a few different knives on sale. I carry these knives at work, but nothing beats my daily carry knife, when not at work, my Kershaw assisted opening tanto blade blur :)

That's the key; they're often cheap and great for daily use. Sometimes they even look pretty cool. I see 'em alot at gun shows and probably buy one every other time!

i have bought a few from smoke mounting works an yes the parts was made in china an piut thoutherer here but good quatey only had one i had ot sent back for erplacement on hte handle s an they made good on it an stamped usa instead of china !!!

I posted an inquiry about the one I picked up today at a pawn shop. It is US made and has a Ser # and seems to be of good quality. It is a hollow stock thumb assist folder Ser # CH0018 and appears unused, has no box and the pocket or belt clip is missing. It is all black and has a Zytel body.

Kershaw or Due Buoi gets my vote. I also have a vintage Gerber that ranks way up there. I've always been of the opinion that cheap chinese crap is just that. I'll never hesitate to spend a few more bucks (and in the case of a Kershaw, a fine one is about 40 bucks on Amazon) and get something of quality. I also do my best to buy American if I can.

The only knife they made that I liked was the small all stainless lock blade folders, I especially liked the one with the screw driver blade.

If anyone has one for sale let me know, I have many NIB buckles etc... i could trade ya for one.

Gentlemen[and or Ladies], perhaps one of you could assist, please?I have two S&W knives that I know little about. One is a Smith& Wesson S.W.A.T.carbon fiber assisted opening[little knob on blade, locks when opened.]I purchased it in 97' or '98 at the S&W shooting sports center store. The second is a blackskeleton steel frame construction that reads Smith & Wesson Performance Center on the blade, and came complementary with the purchase of a 9 recon from the P.C.in '99.Anything of interest in these knives? Thanks for your help and your time.

Why would S&W - a premier firearms manufacturer - lower itself to putting it's logo on cheap Chinese junk? I have never been able to figure that out. They must have real knuckleheads working in the marketing dept. up in Springfield.

I have to agree with most of the above opinions...The early made in the usa S&W Knives are excellent quality...the imports are fine and if lost etc. no big deal...the price is right...I use a Cuttin-Horse every day on my farm...it does the job....I am still impressed by these new knives.

The carbon fiber knives are very hard to find...every once in awhile you will see one on ebay...I was able to find a "performance Center" on ebay a few years ago...have not seen one since...

I've got a few in my small collection, and the only one that I don't care for is a S.W.A.T. assisted opening job...seems cheap. The all metal ones seem to be quite nice.

I don't get it either, but Winchester does it, too. Maybe Remington IIRC also.
