Depends on what you're looking to spend. The M&P is a superior pistol to the Sigma hands down, but it is more expensive. I'm not aware of any major rust issues with them, and all the bugs of the early models should have been worked out by now. My M&P40 has been 100% reliable with everything I've run through it. Its trigger is also much better than the Sigma trigger.

matt does yours have the mag safety? and what kind of sights are on it? i know they improved the mags the first ones were shiny blue mags now they are dull and less likely to rust right? what is the sku#?

Mine does not have the mag safety. I live in Virginia where I can get any configuration. I actually don't mind the idea of a mag safety, but my local dealer was unable to come up with a pistol that had the feature. The SKU on mine is 209300, which is full-size .40, 15 round mags, no internal lock, no mag safety. The slide is laser engraved with a warning about firing with the mag removed. The gun currently has standard 3-dot Novak sights but I plan to have Trijicon night sights put in. Mags have a dull black finish so I guess they are the newer ones. Another huge advantage the M&P has over the Sigma in my opinion is the interchangable backstraps, and CTC makes a backstrap with a laser built in.

thanks matt yeah cause i have a 5906 already from cdnn and since i cant find a 4006 new im going to look into getting a m&p 40 for myself. this will complete my collection:cool:

There's no such thing as a "complete" collection ;):D

I just bought and broke in my M&P .40 and it's an amazing pistol. It was a bit more expensive but was worth every penny. I knew after the first ten rounds shot that I would be shooting this pistol for a lifetime.

Take the M&P - it is professional grade.

i know the m&p series had rust issues

Never heard of that. They have stainless slides and barrels with the melonite treatment. You have to work at it to get it to rust.

& they dont have stainless steel mags.

True. Wipe them off.

and there were failure to feed problems too.

Never heard that one, except as operator error.

the sigma has no rust issues?

never heard of any rust issues with SIGMA

and has no failure to feed problems?

I have heard of some feed issues with SIGMA, but generally they work well and if it does not, S&W will fix it.

and it has stainless steel mags too.

Not correct. SIGMA has carbon steel mags finished in a teflon nickel coating.

can someone give me advice please.

Get the M&P.

I chose the M&P over the Sigma based on what I had heard about both, the feel of each in my hand, and the feel of the trigger. I'm very satisfied with my M&P40C :)

The M&P is much better than the Sigma. They both go bang every time you pull the trigger. However, the M&P does it with a better trigger pull, a design trusted by several leo agencies, a more comfortable grip, and it looks better. The Sigma is a good gun and the M&P is a great gun.

Yes the M&P is a better gun,If you can shoot 3in groups with the Sigma @ 20yds You can do 1 1/2-2in max with the M&P ; )
