Fullfilled one of my automotive dreams

Congratulations, Jframe. I understand completely, because I have a have a history with those cars. A close friend of mine bought a brand new, bright yellow 1969 Boss 302 when they first came out in the spring of 69. I bought it from him in 1973 and owned it until 1983. Another close friend bought another used 69 in 73. I sure miss those cars. Sweet engine, and the best 4 speed transmission ever made.

42"7" cobrajet?

Yes. The original Shelby's had a 428 but this one has a 427 Cobra Jet NASCAR engine. This is a 1968-1/2 Shelby 500KR.

That's all I know about it. It's my husband's car. He's had it 30 years.

That's not the SOHC (Single Overhead Cam) is it?
Hows about a pic under the hood.
Beautiful Shelby,Mr.C and you got to have a ball with that 'Stang.
Ever throw your son the keys?

Every time I lay my hands on a top loader 4speed my dad steals/borrows it from me.
He drives a '66 Custom Cab he bought new.Now with 390(was 352) 4speed(was 3 on the tree)AC,Power steering and brakes.Oh yea,he stole my seat out of my '64Custom Cab.
It's all good.Anything for Dad.

Ahhh, the L-88 Corvette someone mentioned....one of my holy grail cars! Only a couple hundred made, they were loud, crude, and unholy fast!

Another grail is a Lambo Muira SV. Oh man, oh man.

But I disagree that women don't get it, my baby drives a 2006 Mustang GT, 5-speed, Ford Racing springs, 245/40's, SLP exhaust...and its HER car, not mine.

We call it the Blue Light Special...for fairly obvious reasons.

Wow! Driving a Boss 302 must have been such a thrill for a true Mustanger like you! I know exactly where you're coming from.

I bought my first Mustang after lusting of the 1987 GT for four years. When I first saw a white '87 GT, I fell is lust. I could't afford it so I bought an Escort GT instead. I saved my pennies for four years while I paid off my Escort.

I read everything I could about Mustangs and attended shows. I loved all of 'em from '65 to '91. Of course, I wanted a '65 289 K-Code or a '69 Mach 1, or a Boss 302, or a Boss 351 from '71!

I bought my Titanium Frost '91 LX 5.0 hatchback 5-speed with a sunroof new off the Ford dealer's showroom floor. I began to like the cleaner lines of the LX over the GT (and the weight savings).

Three years ago I found a 1991 GT automatic convertible and bought it with just 37,000 miles for only $7,000. It won a Mustang Club of American National Gold award it's first time out.

My wife loves "her" red GT and still enjoy dusting Camaros with my Vortech supercharged LX!

I've owned seven of them since I was seventeen. My next mission is to try out a 1971 Boss 351. The guy that owns the Boss 302 also has a Boss 351, and I'm pretty sure he'll let me drive it as well. Now if I could only get my hands on trying out a Boss 429! Oh well, gotta go work the parts counter at my local Ford dealership; the Boss 302 blew out it's rear pinion seal out of that 9" rearend when I parked it back last night, so I told Ralph I'd try to find him one when I got to work today. Had to go in a little late due to a gun trade, so I better get going.

The Boss 302 was a great car as were the other cars built for similar purpose, the Z28, AMX Javelin, AAR Cuda & T/A Challenger.
The Boss 302 stayed more true to purpose than the others.
All were awesome cars.

is it?

Are you kidding? I can't even get the keys, although I did try driving it once. They don't call them "muscle" cars for nothing. It's a heavy beast to maneuver. I ride "shotgun", although technically I ride "M&P9".

Here's the engine.

Yup,
Fat tires, running precious little caster, and with 5-6 hundred pounds of some of Detroit's finest sitting atop it, can tend to make manual steering unwieldy.
My compliments to the Chef!

In 71 or so I was just out of the Army and a friend had just got out of the Navy. He had a 429 CJ with an auto trans and he asked me if I wanted to drive it. I left the local DQ and went about 2 miles East. I shifted out of first around 65 and 2nd at 110 or so. I turned around and did the same thing on the way back to town. I think that four mile trip used about a quarter tank of gas. Never saw him or the car again, but it was fun.

Thanks for the pics Barb. No it's not the SOHC.I didn't think they went in the 'Stangs. But when you mentioned NASCAR I thought about the SOHC,It was outlawed from stockcar racing for some (fuzzy memory) reason.
Anyways thanks again for sharing your husbands pride and joy (other than you!) with us.

lucky guy, getting to drive that boss. owned a 70 boss 302 for many years. had numerous upgrades to engine and suspension. really miss that car. mine was medium blue metallic. unusual color for boss mustangs. most of them were the bright look at me colors.

Raced a Boss 302 (yellow with the black stripes) back in 1970 with my 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner (383 cid, 4 speed Hurst on floor, no power steering, no power brakes, no Air Conditioning) that I purchased new in November, 1968.

Here's my baby, it's an original 68 gt that was bought and used as a drag car in 1969. It spent the next 15 years going 1/4 mile at a time and was then put out to rust behind the speed shop that raced the car. Restoration was started in 1999, here she is now, with the odometer at 8196 original HARD miles.

She now has a 408 stroker, C6, 4.11's, and nothing else. It turns out to save weight way back when they not only removed everyting unnecessary, they even removed the mounts for most things. No power steering, brakes, heat, vents of any kind, sound deadning, or anything that don't make it go real fast. It's been a challenge returning it to "street legal", but then again it is cool driving a race car on the road.

With the 3" exhaust and single chamber flowmasters, you can hear it two towns over :)

See all that room around the motor, when I got it, it still had it's blown, alcohol-injected 460 in it.
