Hello,

I have owned this gun for a couple of months and noticed that the trigger is a little to hard for me. I tend to shoot down and to the right. I recently purchased a Wolf striker 3.5 spring to install to hopefully loosen up the trigger.

I have read numerous postings on this spring so I am familiar with the pro's and con's.

My problem is that I am having a hard time actually getting to the factory spring. I believe this is a 3rd generation model. I believe the striker spring to be inside of the read of the slide and is accessed by the plastic piece in the rear? How does this come off exactly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope this helps for the slide.
YouTube - Completely disassemble SW9VE 9mm pistol - Taking apart the slide - Duracoat video part 1

This helps for the trigger pull, got my trigger pull down to around 7lbs.

Once you get the wolf striker spring in and some rounds down range report back to us about the reliability of your firearm. I have removed my small spring shown in the 2nd video and have put about 500 rounds down range without any problems. All together I have put about 1000 rounds through my SW40VE and have NEVER had a FTF or FTE. Hope you enjoy your firearm, take care of it and it will take care of you.

thanks

jdmdriver8 thanks alot. This is just what I needed. I have nothing to pry that back piece off on the slide so I will have to buy something later on.

I appreciate your help.

I hope your not using this as an EDC because you have a chance of getting a Failure to fire with a lighter striker spring. I would just do the trigger job on the sear and take out the pig tail spring and maybe polish the assembly. That would make it alot smoother.

hey

I put in the wolf striker spring and went to the range today. I shot 100 rounds. I believe the rounds were 115 grain. I went through about 30 rounds and then it started to misfire. It misfired four times and two of the misfires were back to back. The strike on the primer is dead center.

This gun currently is my only self defense weapon and the misfires are unacceptable. It is disappointing as the pull is lighter and my accuracy is noticeably better. I probably will be putting the old spring back in and maybe looking at sending it in to see if S&W can fix the trigger. That or try the polish job.

In all, the spring did help reduce the trigger pull but now with the possibility to misfire more often. I went through 700 rounds with no misfires prior to putting on this spring.

Reliability is the most important thing, whether a pistol is used for HD or competition on the range.

I have read a lot of Sigma threads on the web, in making my decision to get one, and none mentions FTF, FTE, etc., or weak hits with the striker as common problems with new/enhanced Sigmas. Older problems (with early Sigmas) like sensitive mag release buttons and breaking (square, Glock-like) strikers have been eliminated.

I'd stay away from changing the striker spring for all the reasons this thread mentions. It was a worthy experiment to try the Wolf spring, but it sounds like it yields an unreliable pistol. The smaller spring in the trigger group, however, apparently can be removed without affecting the strength of the striker's hit, and does make the trigger lighter -- probably taking a few pounds off the pull.

Sigma

I really like my 9ve and I think a lot of complaints about the trigger are just weak fingers.

I watched the videos and also the ones with guys and girls firing their sigmas rapid and slow fire. THERE WERE NO FTFS OR FTES. This is a great gun.

Exactly, weak fingers and wrists are IMO the most common source of complaints with the sigma and DAO autos and revolvers in general.

Though i appreciate a nice SA trigger pull as on my 1911's, the "crappy" trigger on my sigma and j-frames pose no real problem with accuracy in terms of defensive use IMO.

People need to stop worrying about MOA and start thinking about practical use. my .02

I tried the "light" spring from wolf on my 40ve...had misfires toooooo many times! Put the stock one in and polished up some parts inside ..smoothed it out where i dont know if the trigger is lighter, or the illusion is there because of the smoother feel or maybe im just gettin used to it.All I know is it goes bang everytime i pull the trigger. Come to think of it,, i think its time for a trip to the range tomorrow! Man i love the smell of gun powder! It is a great gun, just dont mess with it too much and it will never fail you.
