I never see any for sale. Seems like that is rarer than the other barrel lengths.
Are 3" model 13s rare?

The 3 inchers are very coveted. They are the perfect balance. I just picked up a 3 inch model 65-2 a coupla weeks ago. Love it.
I've sold and traded a gozillion guns, but the one I regret the most was a blue steel 3 inch model 13. It was just too purdy for me to carry. If I ever find another one...

I regretted loosing a 3" M13... consoled myself with a 3" M66. 3" heavy barrel K frame is a perfect balance for me. I still have it 20 years after the purchase, which is why you fnd few for sale.

Sir, I'm not sure that they're actually rare. They were a regular catalog item for a long time and were made in some numbers, though certainly not as many as, say, Model 19s. I suspect their relative scarcity today has more to do with belated popularity than actual numbers produced.

How about a pic of one of each? Here's my 13-4 alongside my 65-3, have boxes for both and $500 in the pair believe it or not!
A number of years ago, while I was living for an extended period away from my wife and children (awaiting for our home to sell), I decided to begin routinely visiting a local indoor range on a weekly basis, to practice.
Time after time, after an hour or so of practice, I would review all the stainless and polymer guns in the many display cases.
I saw the most "modern" of handguns on display.
Early on though, I noticed a singular blue revolver...seemingly out of place amongst its more "modern" brethren. Each week I would notice this revolver, sitting in the lowest shelf, in a rear corner, looking kind of "out of place".
For whatever reasons (actually, I thought it looked somewhat "sad" relative to its more modern brothers, I decided this "lost child" needed a home, and so I purchased it.
A S&W model 13-4, 3", blued.
It has been fired once, and now sits next to a S&W model 65 3" stainless.
Both sit next to my GP100, 3", blued.
I guess I just sort of like the 3".

One reason that the 3" M13s are so popular is that they were the last standard issue revolver of the FBI before they went to semi autos. A lot of agents bought and carried other arms, but they were issued a 3" M13.

13-3 w/o box and a 13-4 with box that I've never even fired.

A few years back my daughter bought one of those square butt, 3" medium weight Australian 10-7s from a guy that had 3 at a gun show. After cleaning it up, smoothing the trigger, and putting on a Tyler adapter, I really got to like it. Been kicking myself for not buying one since.
It's pretty much her favorite gun so if I want one I'm going to have to go get my own.

I sure like mine, which I've owed for a number of years. Once I figured out the M-13 was the revolver I wanted I started with a 4" square, then finding a 3" round butt was difficult. I hadn't thought about nickel but that's what came along! $275 seemed like a lot at the time.

Saw my first one ... 3" RB 357 used but in the box at last gunshow. guy walking around wanted $400 for it. It looked pretty neat.

I have a 13-2 I bought about 10 years ago. If memory serves (and it might not) I think I paid about $200 for it. It does balance nicely, but I haven't carried it much because that DEEP blue is just too pretty. I would like to get a 65 so I can carry it next to my sweaty hide and not worry about pitting. I'm not sure how rare it is. Like a previous comment said it was the last revolver issued by FBI. A few of the agents in the shootout in Miami in April of 1986 were carrying them.
