Help for Haiti, who is giving???

Educate me here please. Where is the aid going to stop. Are we going to rebuild the whole country? When the "rebuild the infrastructure" money starts trickling through, are the U.S. civilian agency's and companies employed in Haiti, going to be considered as part of the employment recovery of the U.S. while nothing is done here to reflect the billions spent? I doubt very much we can dump off food and water there and say goodbye. So I bet we start with lotsa mobile homes, to be followed by what, when they're trashed. Haiti has the largest AIDS epidemic in the Caribbean, are we gonna pour money into that?.

That remains to be seen is not an answer.

Devastation through natural disaster is not the same thing as poverty as the result of politics.

I can certainly understand the anger towards how our government has elected to spend our money over the years, and I share that anger. However, that list is long and includes far more then just disaster aid to other countries. The only control I have over this is via the political process. I am politically engaged, but the results have been far from acceptable in many of our eyes, which in part gives rise to the frustration we see expressed in this thread.

I try to focus on the things that are within my direct control at the time, and there is nothing right now I can do about the larger government spending issue, so I choose to give as an individual to those who may need the help.

I don't lose any sleep over whether what I give ends up in the right place, or helping the right people as there is nothing I can do about that. Do I know for sure that the donated items we put on the truck are going to end up in the right hands? No, of course I have no way of absolutely verifying that, so I do the only thing I can do and that is to hope and believe that the items will end up in the right hands and helping the people who need the help.

I'm in favor of dropping off water, food, medicine and body bags and then leaving.

But -- it will be turned into political theater. I won't be watching.

You can always donate to a legitimate 501(c)(3) - a real one.

Bush Jr (43) says if you want to send blankets, food and water... don't. "Just send your cash."

Bushie, your're doing a heck of a job!

Don't donate if you don't want to, would hate for you to spend the money you need for that new set of grips.
Mater a fact, I just ordered a set from Hugue, Lamo Camo, finger groves and a bottom ring:cool:
Now I'm broke=no Haitian money:(
