curious to see how many people choose to wear a sportcoat or vest all the time in order to carry a larger weapon. Or does this matter?

I find myself wearing a sportcoat most of the time. If I do wear shorts I carry a Keltec P3AT in my pocket. However I would rather carry my 66 or 1911.

Just curious to see. I live in GA so heat is an issue for a good 4 months to 6 months in this decision.

Most weekdays, I wear a sport coat or suit. However, I also often carry under an untucked shirt, or sometimes, in a K&D tuckable IWB, in which I carry the same gun I usually carry under a sport coat.

Fishing shirt

Columbia outerwear has 'fishing shirts' they are loose fit, and can be had in a variety of colors....I wear mine un-tucked and I can conceal a full size 1911....if you have an Academy sporting goods store, you can try some on for yourself....in the Texas heat, they sure are comfy...and they don't look 'tacticool' either...;)

Carpenter's jeans, or jeans shorts and Button down shirts with busy prints and not with light silky type fabrics. Square cut is best. The heavier fabrics aren't as cool in the summer, but they minimize wind printing. I prefer the FIST 1A IWB kydex/leather hybrid holster with a body shield and a Beltman belt.

During the hot weather it is normally untucked t-shirts or plain shirts (think dickies or craftsman) and appendix carry. I personally stay away fom all clothing designed for Concealed carry. I have been given some 5.11 concealed carry shirts that were very well made however I feel they are a "flag" to the bad guys.

Get thee to thine local Goodwill store...
One can find very nice clothing for CC there. I buy Hawaiian shirts with the tags still on them, other tail-less sport shirts and the like for $3-6 dollars all the time. I'm 6'1" 200 lbs and have no trouble carrying my full-size 1911 with a mag pouch or my Smith 325 OWB. Just pick a darker pattern and the weapon never prints.

I'm 6'1" 250. And always have loved hawaiian shirts....

Just a loose t-shirt with some graphics on it to distract the eye away from where I carry the gun. Hides my model 10 or 1911 with no trouble. Darker colors work better, patterns in the fabric (such as a "distressed" look or tie-dyed) also help a lot.

Remember, the beauty of it is that the people who are afraid of and hate guns are the last ones to think about them. They won't notice anything. Their heads are to deep up their......... :D

For concealed carry applications a good pancake-style holster is tough to improve upon.

Any loosely-fitted cover garment that is about 2" longer than the exposed holster will usually provide good concealment during routine activities. Strenuous activities such as running, repeatedly squatting or kneeling, or lifting the arms above shoulder level can cause some exposure with certain garments.

I carry a 4" springfield XD .40 in a Galco IWB N3 holster. It conceals well and has a tab on the inside to protect the tang area from touching the body. I wear an outside shirt, polo or button down, and a "T" shirt underneath the shirt for moisture absorption. Works well and very little shows. I use a Beltman belt for good support of the holster.

If you go the polo shirt route make it a solid or vertical stripe, horizontal will show the grip out line better. I posted this site before looks promising CCW Breakaways.com

I live in Columbus, and I designed one of my IWB's for that very reason, I wanted it to conceal and be comfortable. Now I can carry my govt 1911 with just a plain t-shirt on. If you come up this way very often and I will show you what I mean.

I've always wore a vest in summer even before I applied for a CCW,so that isn't a problem.

I also always wear long sleeves and long pants, wouldn't be caught dead with shorts on.

I can see my favorite way to carry is going to be IWB with a vest over it,or a coat in the cooler months or rainy weather.

Tom Selleck?:D

That's me... Just without the 6 pack abs... Mine's more like a keg...

They look great, pricey but still great a idea. I believe my wife could turn a pair of ten buck K mart jeans into break aways pretty easy. Might just have to get a pair. Waitin' for my SS check!;)

Those breakaway pants have the most excruciatingly akward draw. Also, futzing with a loaded, cocked and unlocked Glock, trigger uncovered, stuffing it into a pocket...well...that's not my idea of safe gun handling.

If you're concerned about being Quickdraw McGraw, carry appendix IWB. Nothing is faster.

I don't really dress for concealed carry - I adapt my carry method to how I need to dress for comfort.

If I had to wear a sportcoat to conceal a 1911 in a shoulder holster in Tennessee in July, I wouldn't go outdoors.

Pocket holsters and J-frames work well. Though I have a lot of carry guns, if I want to go to a place where a J-frame might not be adequate, I don't go.

Guess I'm old and set in my ways.

I've carried my 1911 commander for about 3 years now IWB and never needed anything more than a t-shirt to conceal my gun, after I get a good cross draw holster I will be adding a 4 inch 686P as my back up gun. :)
