I believe these guns are actually about 10-years old, ask what the fired case date is. S&W released some of these last year that they had held on to for some reason.

What's it say on the right side of the frame in that picture?

I believe that is the decocker only model, with the text that reads something like: Caution: The decocking lever automatically returns to the ready to fire position."

In searching for the text on Gunbroker under "4566" I found a 4566STW that has the year 2006 printed on the slide. Has anyone else seen that before?

Here is the pictures of the text (MODS: if this is not allowed please feel free to remove, just posted for conversation sake.)

Is this a good deal? I have been looking for 3rd gen smiths, don't really like the blackened melonite but who knows.

That's kind of hoaky to have anything subscribed on a pistol. Information like that should be in the owner's manual and shouldn't be mimicked on the slide or frames. Mine has nothing but 45 Tactical Smith & Wesson on the left side and nothing on the right. My serial number is BDXxxxx.

Unfortunately that's what happens when we live in a world of lawyers and law suits.

Question?

Is this CDNN S&W 4566

DA/SA?
Stainless Frame?
Stainless Slide?
Manual Safety?
Manual Decocker?

No, the blame lies with JURIES made up of lay-people who award large sums of money when people basically have negligent accidents caused by their own inept handling of firearms, fans, table saws, and other items that are safe if used properly and according to the directions. Blame the juries. The juries made up of lay people could shut it down by "just saying no." If they did, the lawyers would not bring the lawsuits as there would be no profit in doing so, since the lawyers get a "contingent fee" - a percentage of the winnings. No winnings, no fee.

So true. If the judges and juries wouldn't award big bucks, then the cases would not be brought. Also, we like to blame the lawyers but keep in ind it isn't the lawyer that sues it is the client. Why do we resent "greedy" lawyers and not greedy plaintiffs?

Also, keep in mind that when a gun company gets sued there is sometimes a political motivation (and funding) behind the suit.

S&W is not the only gun maker to plaster warnings on the gun. If the warning really offends it can be scrubbed off and the gun refinished. Try that with a Ruger or beretta.

Back on topic, I think $599 for a NIB 4566 with night sights is a good deal, but also not a steal, esp since those night sights are probably near the end of their life.

Ambulance chasers are every bit at fault. Ever see those low-bid television commercials where they try and make people believe they will get BIG money if the just come visit with that law firm? Every cog that makes the machine work is responsible for the machine. It's real easy to hide behind the "I was just doing my job" excuse.

Although I do agree that juries share in the blame.

Good price on a great duty.......or range pistol. I have one of these I purchased privately last year, for a bit more than what CDNN is asking for them.

Melonited stainless steel, decock only, with three mags. RJF serial prefix. Mine has the laser etched warning on the right side of the slide.

Two versions of how these came to be. One - verified, is a law enforcement agency in New England had an order done. The other unverified story is these are overuns from a US Marshal service order.

Either way, they are dependable good looking 4566's. Regards 18DAI

So.....anyone order their melonite 4566 yet?

Well, see now you have just about convinced me this is a better deal than I had thought. So how well does melonite hold up?
