I recently purchased my first revolver; a new 686 Plus with a 4" barrel. All I can say is WOW I love this gun!

I have several semi-autos including 2 M&P's in 9mm and .45 so I wanted to give a S&W revolver a try. I researched a bit and talked to my buddy who is the gunsmith at my local range and he pointed me to the 686.

I figured I would be all over the target in DA the first time I shot it. Emptied the cylinders, pulled the target in from 35 feet and my group was about 2". I was very happy and impressed with it right out of the box. SA group was even better.

I like the Hogue rubber grip, but I went ahead and ordered a Hogue Kingwood with finger grooves, checkering and stripe cap. Should be here in a couple more weeks.

I am like a kid on Christmas morning when I get this thing to the range! Absolutely love shooting it.

Welcome to the forum, 686+ was my first revolver as well... Although I have the 6"... I love it... Keeps me coming back as I can't stop taking it to the range... Its getting expensive due to the cost of ammo! Congratulations on your new firearm.

proud owner of 686 also...

I too have a 4inch 686 and love it. I purchased it new back in 1993 and have shot it enough that the trigger has become quite nice without resorting to a trigger job. I also lubed it with Brownells Action lube and I feel that this helped too. The 686 is a great frame size and in my opinion is just right. I also purchased a second 686 with a five inch barrel and a 7 shot cylinder unfluted cylinder. Good Luck and have fun. Its a good sturdy revolver to have .

The 686 is probably S&Ws most popular 357. My first handgun was a 686-3 with a 4 inch barrel. It is one I will never get rid of. The L frame is about as close to perfect as you can get IMO. I have since gotten a 2.5" and a 3" CS-1. Congrats on yours.

The 686 is a great gun. I have a 4" and it is one of my favorites. I have Cocobolo smooth grips on mine. This gun has enough weight to absorb recoil that rubber grips are unnecessary IMO.

you certainly picked a great first revolver...congrats...that 686 shoots great and is built like a mack truck!

Congrats! I have quite a few revolvers now but just picked up my first 4" 686 last week. It is a 686-4+ and I am looking forward to putting some rounds downrange.

Enjoy owning one of the finest revolvers made!

Welcome to the forum, and the world of revolvers from a fellow Buckeye. Congratulations on your 686, it's a fine firearm.

Congrats on the new 4" 686P. That's a fine first revolver. We all enjoy a little tasteful gun porn so git some pics posted, please.

Welcome aboard.

Chris

The 686 is the best you can get.Where do you shoot at New Albany or LRPC in Landcaster? You will enjoy the gun very much.

I just acquired a 4" 686-4p and it is so sweet !! Myne has the Hogue round butt grips on it and it fits my hand better than OJ's glove (ok, a LOT better than that glove) :)

Here is a quick photo I just took. I wasn't going to post a pic until my Hogue Kingwood grip was on. Like I said earlier, I could not believe how accurate I could shoot it in DA since this was my first revolver. I'm shooting this better than my M&P semis. I just have a big smile on my face when shooting this!:)

Congratulations, on a fine first revolver. Beware, it likely won't be your last. These things tend to multiply. ;)

That's what I was thinking.........it needs some company. It is feeling pretty lonely in the safe with the M&P's, 1911 and the other semi-autos...............

Nice revolver! You are going to love those Hogue wood grips that you have ordered. I have a set of smooth Hogue finger groove grips in Tulipwood and really like them. Be sure to post another picture once you get them installed.

It is hard to beat a good L-frame. It is hard to find anything that they don't do well.

You can just post up another pic later when you get some new grips on it. Congratulations! I picked up a 686+ Deluxe and few weeks ago too. My 1st S&W. So I know how you feel.:):D

i have this exact gun and my s&w logo is the same very weak. why did smith do such a weak logo on this model?
