There are many good rounds out there. I selected the Federal HST both for my department and personal carry. Bill

Winchester PDX1.... I used to use Golden sabres until I read and watched some tests that revealed some jacket separation. PDX1's are bonded and have done well in all tests I've seen...I believe this is the round that won Winchester the fed contract.

Yes, the Fed HST is a great round. I am carrying Winchester Ranger T-series, which is a personal favorite of Mas Ayoob.

Read both articles.

The cartridges you mention aren't even players in this game anymore.

VERY good read. One note about his notes:
Bullet designs like the Silver Tip, Hydra-Shok, and Black Talon were state of the art 15 or 20 years ago. These older bullets tend to plug up and act like FMJ projectiles when shot through heavy clothing;
Hornady's Critical Defense rounds now have a polymer insert in their hollow point rounds.

To quote from them:
A soft polymer insert prevents the hollow-point cavity from being clogged with fibers and other materials which can inhibit reliable bullet expansion.
I wonder if it's a marketing scam, or it actually helps?

The best carry round is the one that feeds and goes bang in your gun everytime. The only way you are going to find that round is on the range, not the Internet.

+1 and if I may add........

Any round that is accurate through "your" gun. I took alot of popular rounds to the range and through my M&P9 the Remington 115 grain JHP and FMJ were the most accurate rounds that I shot. I use the Remington 115 JHP for HD and the FMJ's for practice (FMJ are 50 round green/white box and the JHP are the 100 round green/white box sold at Walmart). I was very surprised on how accurate and clean the "cheaper" ammo was. When local dealers (Bass Pro, Dicks, Gander Mountain, etc) run Remington specials I'll pick up a couple boxes of Ultimate HD and Golden Saber to test.

9MM=Winchester Ranger LE 129gr Black Talons, still have 200rds
.45ACP=Winchester Ranger LE 230gr HP, same as Black Talons, just not black. 500rds
.38spl=Remington 158grSWCHP+P, it has one of the better track records out there. 500rds
.357Mag=145gr Winchester STHP. Works great out of my Marlin 1894C and 66-2.
.380ACP, .32ACP, .25ACP, Fiochii Ball. With these three I want as much penetration as I can get.

I've also had excellent results with Remington 115 JHP (Part No. L9MM1B). Been getting mine from local Cabela's but I'll now check at Walmart, too.
