I can't believe I let this happen picked up a 27-2 5" with a Tyler T grip gun is in great condition just a small amount of muzzle wear comes with a Hunter holster a box of 38+P ammo $400.00 total. Get it home and clean it up and then realize I somehow scratched the side plate must have been something on my polishing rag can't believed this happened I experienced a full range of emotion yesterday from high to low and didn't sleep real good. So I guess I got a nice shooter at a good price.

You got a heck of a nice gun at an outstanding price.

Enjoy it.

heck that scratch isn't bad at all.....dont kick yourself too hard.....damn good price :)

tubby i feel for ya friend
i have learned the hard way also. i never ever polish a blue or nickel gun with an old rag.small pieces of metal.or anything sharp can get lodged in the polishing cloth, and thats what will make those hairline scratches.i have washed old cloths, assuming they were clean.bad idea.
tubby, get a intant blue marker.the name escapes me now.its the smae stuff as yused in cold blue ,only in a marker tip.it will take the brightness out of the scratch at least.

only small advice ,from me,so be cautios and seek other advice, but that is what i would do,to mellow those out.or blend them in

Look, you got a great deal on a great gun..."little bit of muzzle wear" takes it out of the pristine condition area anyway, so enjoy a great, classy shooter without any worries - use it for what it was made for! Just like that first scratch on a new vehicle - you hate to see it, but now you can get on with life...

That is a sin against nature! You should be severely punished! Immediately put that scarred piece of junk in a box and mail it to me forthwith.

...or you could take it out and shoot it and enjoy the heck out of it.

(But, I think you should send it to me!) :D :D

What everyone else has said..... You have a revolver that is one of the best handling and well detailed handguns S&W has ever produced.

It isn't a "museum piece" however, and every blemish and unintentional boo-boo just gives a shooter more character, IMO. Use it without worry! Expect more scratches!

I've got a lot of S&W's and the 5" 27-2 is my favorite handgun over all the others. I believe a lot of other owners agree. At the price you paid and with all the extras included you've done very, very well.

you've just marked it as yours...everytime you notice the scratch, just remember the great day you had getting the gun!

that's what I tell myself anyway (cause I know how you feel, been there!)

We've all seen plenty of Smiths with the story of their history told through the character of beautiful patina (plus or minus a few marks). Every story has a start.
Enjoy the gun and make this one yours.

I would not worry about it. It hardly noticeable. I recently but a surface scatch on my 66-4 4 inch on the side plate. Now I feel the revolver is really mine. You will too.
Enjoy your 27-2.
Howard

Just means you can shoot it without worry.

Exactly!

If it was in pristine condition, wouldn't there be a tempation just to tuck it away in the safe?

Now you can tote a shootin' iron that has way more class than what the average joe carries!

Just think how much less painful the next scratch will now be! Shoot the HE!! out of it.

Could be the scratch was already there and when you wiped it down it showed up, my story and I am sticking to it;) I have a 27-2 with a five inch barrel as well, great revolvers and fun to shoot. Enjoy yours. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I scratched the side of my Model of 1950 Target .45ACP with the ejector while cleaning it.
I about cried, but I shoot the thing & stuff happens.
