UN after our Gun Rights

This keeps coming up, here and lots of other places. I'm sure the U.N. is very anti-gun, and they would love to see this implemented. But this country could only legally agree to this if it passed the Senate by a 2/3 majority. That is not gonna happen with the present makeup of the Senate, and next year it will probably be even more gun friendly. We need to be aware of the political climate, but this is not a serious threat at this point in time.

P&R, I agree with you at the moment. But we have to be made aware of was is fomenting. We have to look out for every piece of news about the subject. I believe the mainstream media will not report on this to try to back door it.

I watch the news and read the news on the net, but I had not heard of this subject matter until weeks ago.

IMHO, we need to throw the UN out of the US (NYC), stop funding, just give enough money to stay as a member, to obstruct what other nations are doing. The UN should really be dismantled. It is run by Communists and despots.

i just tried to forward the un -forbes link to to facebook.it was denied .do we have some form of internet censureshipbeing inflicted on us??

How 'bout the UN practices doing this in say, Somalia, Iran, Syria. When they get some practice and succes in those places, then start talking.

If this treaty ever passes the Senate the court battle over a treaty removing a Constitutional Right will be immense. If we were to loose the court battle and this treaty is allowed to be implemented I can see no other course of action except....well folks you figure the rest out.....but to quote a famos actor and Gun supporter......well you know where Im going with that dont you?

While I agree, it won't be ratified here, that's not the only problem. We may not see any foreign made guns if it passes. Actually, that may not be a bad thing.

The UN...

...would like nothing better than to see the United States go the way of the dinosaur and will try anything to accomplish this.
Unless the UN is willing to send UN "peacekeepers" to US soil to enforce ANY of their "policies" (all three of them without guns) I dismiss anything that comes out of it.

;)

Don't ever rest easy, or be too sure.
You may one day see 'arms control' tacked onto some other treaty that IS ratified.

Years ago, on this board, I pointed out Article VI of the US Constitution. I was told it wasn't a problem.
I think it COULD be a problem, depending on the eventual interpretation of the then sitting SCOTUS regarding a treaty and a re-interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. Don't ever believe for a moment that we will never see law "enacted from the bench"......

The United States Constitution - The U.S. Constitution Online - USConstitution.net

Excerpt from Article VI:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

UN anti-gun bill

If its not known clinton signed this bill around december 2010. This bill plus the botched ATF guns to Mexico plan , should make every American fear this current administration. They will stop at nothing to enslave the only free country in the world. When we took the oath to defend America, we said " from all enemies foreign and domestic ". Some of us take this oath very seriously and some don't.

If there is a more irrelevant organization on the face of the earth than the UN I can't think what it is. We pay (when we decide to) the majority of the UN's budget and collectively (without the US) they couldn't legislate or fight their way out of a paper bag (see Libya as a prime example).

Congress is getting tired of the whole UN mess and I doubt any "treaty" proposed by the UN for control of guns anything else would pass here. The UN countries say something should done about whatever the crisis of the day is yet most of them won't commit troops, logistical support or money and expect us to do everything. I think the UN is dead, it just doesn't know it yet.

In my opinion, the NRA plays up the threat of the UN for one reason and one reason only, to get more money from its members.

Let’s be serious here. If this or any other such gun grabbing garbage were to be passed by Congress it would start the next American Civil War / Revolution. There will always be those that make noise about banning this and that, but there are still growing numbers of gun owners in the US each year and that is only the amount that admit to it. There is another group that doesn’t own but wouldn’t want to see them banned. The amount that wants the ban is now, has always been, and always will be the extremely noisy minority in the US. Gun owners put up with more and more garbage but the ultimate has no chance of ever happening. I also don’t see it getting chipped away bit by bit. There are too many chips that get away only to grow right back. Remember, CCW is on a massive increase, gun sales are up every time the political winds shift, and groups like the NRA aren’t just suddenly going to throw in the towel. So yes, we must stay vigilant, but I know we are on the winning side and for the right reasons.

I think Holder, ATF and Obama may be more problem with administrative rules being put into place right now than the UN.

No treaty can supercede the Constitution.
Moreover treaties apply to the conduct between nations. Not the internal laws of a signatory state.

Sounds like "send the check" we're in danger notice.

Ignorance isn't bliss, ignorance is ignorance
I backed my view with a fact. I was looking for a short idiomatic response to the quote. All I could find that were relevant had to do with black pots or glass houses and rocks.

Forecasts of behavior should be based on previous behavior. To date, the Pres has not interfered with gun ownership. The Constitution, the supreme court, states rights, and more pressing issues are all road blocks .
