This is actually an "almost last gun of 2011," but I'd like to show it anyway because it represents a kind of departure for me. A gun usually has to have a big rotating chunk of steel in the middle to catch my attention, but I can appreciate a nicely designed semiauto as well. This is an early (1991) 4006 that I won in a forum benefit auction several weeks ago, but I couldn't take possession until December because of my state's peculiar calendar of firearms acquisition permissions and the way that calendar interacts (or doesn't interact) with various state and federal firearm licenses and certificates.

I'm looking forward to some range time with this one after the first of the year.

Here's my second to the last gun, a mint Charter Arms Bulldog .44. It's weird, though. Ever since I got it I keep hearing my dog talk to me telepathically telling me to do crazy stuff. "Get my ball..Get my ball..."

I was not aware that gun existed, but something about it makes me keep looking at it. I see it has both Walther and S&W markings. Does it share any parts or design features with Smith's semiautos, or are design and production completely separate?

I know what you mean. I SHOULD hate that thing. But it's very symetrical in it's modernness and fascinating. It would look great in the hands of a slightly futuristic movie cop.

Year isn't over yet. Either a Sig 1911-22 or the lower cost but identical GSG 1911-22. If I do not get one of those
the default position is held by my grandfathers H&R Small Frame Hammerless in .32 S&W that he bought in
a barber shop in 1929.

I know what you mean. I SHOULD hate that thing. But it's very symetrical in it's modernness and fascinating. It would look great in the hands of a slightly futuristic movie cop.

As far as I know, the PPS isn't a cousin to any S&W semi-autos. It's German made, and it's about the size and weight of a Glock 26, except it's thinner (single-stack mag) and has a longer grip, meaning it's a bit easier to carry and a bit easier to hang on to when firing. It has interchangeable backstraps of different sizes. It's trigger pull isn't overly long and is a pound or two heavier than a Glock. Does have kind of a distinctive look...

A 642 with lock for the wife when I travel. Had the LGS put a spring kit in it before I even shot it and it works and shoots great. No poor quality in this one.

Last PAIR of guns for the year

Which gun is my last gun of the year depends on how you keep score . . .

If it's the last gun I actually got my hands on and fired, then that would be my newest Dan Wesson CCO last week.

But, if you count guns that have been ordered but not received, that would be the S&W 3913NL I bought in an auction yesterday to go with my wife's S&W 3913LS Lady Smith that she got the same day my Dan Wesson arrived.
