627 PC question

I am looking to buy my first. 357 S&W revolver. I have been setting money aside for a while so there really is no budgetary constraint regarding this purchase. I have narrowed this decision down to to the performance center model 627. A friend told me to look at the V-Comp version as well. I am definitely not the most informed person when it comes to firearms but I am interested in learning as much as I can. My is concerning the price difference between those two models. What are the differences between those two revolvers? Also, what are those specific differences used for. Any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't mind spending a little extra, there is an original bloodwork 627pc on gunbroker right now for a good price. If I could afford it would buy a second one.

The V-Comp has a removable compensator. I have one with the 3" barrel. Havn't seen a V-Comp for sale lately.

I have the 627 PC (not the V-Comp). Full load 357 rounds are a little hot in your hand, but I could shoot it all day with the wood grips. (Keep in mind that I can also shoot my 460 Magnum all day!). Personally, I dont see the need for a compensator on the 627, but maybe that's just me. Get what ever excites you. That's the best part of this process - getting what you want regardless of what someone else thinks!

About 8 years ago I had a 627 PC V comp that I thought was the best revolver I had ever shot. I got into Cowboy Action shooting and traded it for cowboy guns. Within the last year or so I purchased the 627 PC that is not the V comp. for Steal Challenge competition.

They both seem to shoot the same. I think it comes down to which one you like the looks of better.

I like the looks of the V comp better. But, I am fine with the standard 627 PC because that is what I have now.

I had a 5" Jerry Miculek PC627 V-Comp for years. Fantastic trigger - horrible front sight (No PC Shop replacement sights.). Plus - with either the comp or the blank installed, there was always something else to clean. It seemed 'lunky' - not the great 'feel' of the 4" 627 Pro I added 5/08. I bought a 2 5/8" PC627 UDR 4/10 - sold the V-Comp - and bought a second UDR! It is a tough act to follow - great balance, quite decent trigger, etc - just regrip it with something more comfortable than the Eagle boot grips it comes with.

I like my 627-5 with the normal looking 4" barrel and fluted cylinder. I don't like flat barrels, V shaped barrels, unfluted cylinders or comps. In my opinion S&W has really gone out of its way to make some ugly and awkward looking 627s.

I love my 627PC.

I have zero desire for a compensated .357. The recoil in this 2" model is very reasonable.

I just picked up this 627-5 used in a LGS for $600 last week. I've only shot it once, but I was immediately impressed, along with my brother and wife who both shot it as well. We all felt it was a tack driver. You won't be dissapointed with the 627, I ran .38 special loads, +P loads, and full house .357 Magnum loads through it, I thought it shot great.

Sorry about the crappy pic, it's a cell phone pic and all I have so far. I ordered some wood finger groover grips for it, when those come in I'll try and get some better pics.

I was there picking up a new 640 Pro when I spotted this. I went from having no .357s to two in one week. (I would always shoot my Dads Python before so these were the first .357s of my own). There was a 627 pro there that was matte with a angled flat barrel for under $900, but I actually like this round barrel in the more shiny finish better. Never bought two guns in one week before, boy am I happy!

I bought a 627PC Vmag about 4 years ago. It's one of my 2 favorite revolvers.

I'll try to get a photo posted, it's not quite like the JM version above.

Shoot very well very accurate. Handles well, haven't found a load it doesn't like.

I've put a lot of rounds in ICORE & Steel Challenge downrange with it.

Did manage to find a fiber-tube front sight for about $20 that makes my geezer eyes see better.

It is one of Lobo's IWBs. He has about a 4 week wait on it which in my book, is stellar for a custom holster. plus very reasonably priced. I went for Horsehide which is a few bucks more.
