How many carry a round in the chamber?

one in the chamber, pistol in a good holster.

if pistol is out of the holster, finger out of triggerguard.

use care when reholstering. i have read that lots of NDs occur when clothing or some other object (like a finger:D) gets in front of the trigger during reholstering.
Very sage advice!

I read a post once on this same question and someone wrote that if you weren't going to carry with one in the chamber then you may as well leave your pistol at home and carry around a hammer in your holster. It just made me laugh. As for me, I was very intimidated at first, walking around with a loaded chamber, but you do get used to it. I would spend plenty of time with an empty gun practicing your draw. And remember that your gun is always best kept in a quality holster that covers the trigger guard. I would also suggest you work on re-holstering as well since many accidents occur when you are trying to stuff your gun back into the holster and it snags your clothing in the trigger.
+1 for above message.

Always one in the chamber. If you are uncomfortable with cocked and locked, carry a DA pistol or a wheel gun. Things can escalate very quickly and criminals do not announce ahead of time that they are out to get you.

Always loaded.
I have been considering an extra mag now too. Just need to find an easy/organized way to carry it.

Like bacon and eggs for breakfast as well as biscuits and gravy you should always carry a gun you intend to defend yourself with just like you would eat a great breakfast in the morning not for your health but for you own life!

A loaded magazine does not count in an auto pistol somehow you must get a round in the chamber to fire it, what if you just broke your left (or right arm) what are you going to do when being fired on???

If you have a round in the chamber then you just need to pull the trigger (unless you have other safeties) and hope you neutralize the situation!

I carry with one in the chamber for 2 reasons, first and most important, it lets me get the gun in play faster and second, it gives me one more round.

It like a First Sargent told me in Honduras"A weapon without a round in the chamber, is one step away from being unloaded"

I never could figure out a way to get the gun to shoot without a round in the chamber.

Purchase a M&P with a thumb safety. Then carry one in the chamber. but if you are more comfortable with a empty chamber then practice at the range that way, drawing and charging the pistol by pulling the slide back. It must be a smooth motion.

Probably because I'm new to guns, I'm hesitant to keep one chambered. However, I realize in a situation,
being ready to go might mean the difference between living or dying. I'm working up to it...

I am not new to shooting or any type of firearms for that matter, until I ran across a potential adversary at an Auto Parts store of all places I used to carry without one in the chamber due to the same concerns that you might now have concerning this matter, I also pretty much carried my weapon in my console holstered, but after that one encounter I now carry concealed with one in the chamber and the weapon is on my person and ready to go under any foreseeable circumstance!

The choice is yours, but you never know what might happen so hope for the best but plan for the worst scenario!

As a teenager it was all about carrying protection to avoid "having one in the chamber". Now it's all about having one in the chamber to avoid danger. Go figure...
