New forum style availible for use

Is there a way to keep our desired style "sticky" so if I decide I prefer the light blue large font, I won't have to manually switch it at every visit once the dark blue new style kicks in as the default?

Once you pick it, it will stick. Of course if you come to the forum, "not logged in", you will see dark blue until you log in.

It certainly is classy looking, but seems a little more difficult for older (past 70) eyes to read. I will continue trying and hope to get used to it.

When I went to the title pate I changed to the dark format, but then when I select a section, it is still the old format, and when I tried to change that it went back always to the SWCA default. Is this what is supposed to be happening?

Richard, if you are in the swca area, it will force the swca style. Change styles in a area different than the SWCA.

I'm liking it intitially, with the easier to see white text.

But my 32+ years experience at being a computer keyboard jockey says the contrast between the darker background and bright text just may end up making eye strain worse and viewing palatable for shorter periods... which I'm sure will please my wife by not losing me to the forum for as long of a period as she does now. :D

After playing around with the color setting in the message composing box... I like this combination better. Anyway for one to setup a text color "default" in their profile?

Back in the early DOS days before GUI interfaces us computer geeks would set our displays to a dark blue background with yellow text as it was very easy on the eyes when you were staring at the screen all day long.

Sadly there is no user adjustable VB style settings other than in your User CP where you can customized your public profile to a small degree. If you play with that feature you can get a small idea of what we went through to create a full blown forum style.

We did try a couple fo differnt colors of text but in the end the white just seem to balance out the overall look better.

We tried orange
We tried yellow
We tried green
We even tried pink

Well done. Once again, progress and change generates thought provoking discussions. I applaude the decisions to change and grow and allow the members the opportunity to critique openly with free speech and thought. God, I love this country.

First thoughts are I like it - I will play with it for a bit and see if I still like it in the evenings. Thanks for all your efforts to improve the forum. You have done a great job with things as a whole.

After a couple of times on the forum both with the old and with the new - I've decided that I like the old better in general settings - the new better in bright daylight settings.

That's my assessment FWIW.

Thanks again for the great job your doing.

Pete

I just changed out to try it and you weren't whistling "Dixie" when you said dark blue! I'll have to run it to see how it works out.

The "Dark Blue" effort is applauded, but I have to weigh in as one of the minority that tried it, and after 10 seconds, my brain locked up.

Too much contrast, it looks to me to be the equivilant OF TYPING IN CAPS ALL THE TIME THAT ANNOYS SO MANY PEOPLE.

I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING, BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THAT MY MONITOR IS SHOUTING AT ME.

I hope the "good old whatever" style is allowed to remain for us who like things a little quieter. ;)

I've been using the "dark blue" format since it was announced and will continue to do so, I just wanted to make one comment where I think it could be "improved" a little.

When posting a link to another thread in the new format it's nowhere near as obvious that it's a link since the color of the link text is the same font & color as the general text.
