Something about the Chardon murders have really bothered me more than the other school shooting tragedies.

Maybe it's because the murderer ran away, showing that he knew the wrongfulness of his heinous acts.

Anyone else particularly bothered by this senseless act more than others?

What bothers me is that someone almost had to have seen/heard something, but people are scared of litigation, and then there is political correctness. These kinds of things just don't "happen." there is always pathology in the individual, and in any specific persons that "interacted" with him, causing or helping him cross this very huge line. The easier it appears for someone to commit an act of this type, the more troubled they are. People in a "normal" state do not do these things. Human beings are subject to all kinds of forces that they have limmited ability to control, and when the wrong combination of these "forces" occurs, and is unrelenting, something is going to happen, and often it is bad news, and then it's way to late. Have you noticed this person's demeaner sitting in court? He looks almost sedate does he not? That may be because he has experienced a huge release of stress, which happened when he shot these individuals. I did a study of these school shootings back not long after the Columbine mess. What stood out when I began to put several of these things side by side was that virtually all of them happened in middle class or above socioeconomic level schools. Looking at columbine, I could easily suggest some school districts where someone who presented themselves the way these 2 did would not have gotten very far with there black costumes and attitudes. But these kids were allowed to just go on with little real consequence, either from the school authorities or the student body. There were MANNY adults in that community who saw this thing unfold, first and formost the parents. When I was a kid, we had one asst vice principle whose job was discipline, and he watched for trouble signs, and was constantly "keeping tabs" on potential trouble makers. The other depressing thing, especially about columbine, was the local police. No one went in until HRT had flown in and made sure everyone was dead, including the coach or teacher who laid there and bled to death for 45 minutes. We will never be privy to the long history that lead to this mess, or the others, because there will be efforts to cut it off, but what needs to be done in all of these cases, in my view, is shine a very bright light on all of this in each of these ocurances. But that isn't likely to happen because it would make someone "uncomfortable." Independant investigators, lead by mental health and law enforcement investigators should look at these things and then publish what their findings show where mistakes were made, and what could have been done, naming names. Change would come then, but that won't happen, at least not in the public way needed for change. Let's just do the same things over and over the same way, expecting different results. We can just ignore the obvious signs of trouble ahead, crossing our fingers while we "whistle past the grave yard" wishing it would all just go away. Flapjack.

OK, I am sorry the incident took place. It should not have.

Not sure why it upsets you so much. It should not unless you know those involved.

Yet just as we make gun free zones a perfect place for a disturbed minded person to shoot others, being politically correct allows others to live as they wish without being brought to task. As the above post stated about Columbine, the kids should not have been able to dress as they did and do the things they did without someone stopping their actions long before the shootings. While parents are not always responsible for the actions of their kids, they bear some responsibility for not paying attention to what their kids are doing and stopping it with some rear end guidence.

People are too afraid today to speak up. They want to be politically correct and do not want to offend anyone. People are afraid to get involved. Parents feel their brats are normal even when they are making bombs in the garage or making videos about shooting others.

My kids were reminded all their formulative years that they had only two things to worry about in life. 1. God. 2. ME. And God is more forgiving than me. He will punish others in the hereafter. I punish them now and they will remember it until God gets a shot at them.

The Chardon story is a sad indeed one as are any related types of tragedy. I'm sure at the trial many WARNING SIGNS will come out. Political Correctness and Failure of those in Authority have some shared responsibility with the occurrence.

Any time a child or younger person gets hurt or killed it breaks my heart. But when I hear about these types of shootings it really pisses me off. Now we will hear that the shooter has had a bad homelife and was just starting to get better. BULLCRAP I have seen children whose parents could care less about them or the things they did untill they were in trouble. THEN you would see the parents and hear how its not their fault. First thing is we as parents need to be held accountable for our children. Then we as parents need to love our children. Then as we show our love we nee to be able to teach our children right from wrong, which should involve the ability to discipline them with NO Goverment intervention. I have two children that I am very proud of. One is a junior in college the oldest is now a proud taxpayer working as a EMT in our local department. I have also been working with children in Scouting for a few years now and YES I have saw some of these parents in action. So YES these types of shootings really bother me even though I dont know any of these people involved. But I see the copycat type just right around the corner in my town. Maybe not for a few years but it is coming.

The newmedia are literally TRAINING these freaks to do this.

In virtually every case I've heard of, they were malignant narcissists craving attention. So what does the media do? DROWN them in attention, and sometimes even SYMPATHY. I'll bet I could cure AIDS, breast cancer and baldness, all in the same day, and not get HALF the attention that a Cho Seung Hui or a Gerald Loughner gets for MURDERING people.

It's like using bloody fish guts as shark repellent. What do they THINK is going to happen?

An IMBECILE recently wrote a column for the Cleveland Plain Dealer babbling incoherently about "gun profiteers". Gee, what about NEWS PROFITEERS? I find it funny that it's wrong to sell guns for money, but ok to encourage mass murder for money.

There isn't NEARLY enough push back against the media for attacking the 2nd Amendment while using the 1st to make money off of mass murders.

There are a lot of sick folks in this world. It's a shame they have to use a firearm to act out their sickness. I wished I had an answer, but I don't.

I think it would be a shame to do the crime, no matter what the weapon. That said, I would rather someone shoot me and get it over with than beat me to death with a cinder block, bat, stick, board, hammer, bullwhip, etc.

What little I have seen about this case suggests that a great deal has not been reported. With a lot of reading between the lines I believe the perp had been bullied by the victims or their group from another school on a common school bus route. I suspect from the odd non-reporting going on that the bullying was well known and that steps to stop it had been inadequate or non-existant. The non-reporting smells of those responsible engaging in a major CYA/bury it campaign. Sorry if my suspicious mind has run amok, but there is something in the reporting (or lack thereof) that stinks.

I in no way condone the shooter's actions, but if it was an act of desperation due to the inaction of others, I do understand it.

It has become something of cliche-kid from trashy and abusive family, doing poorly in school, perhaps a drug user, subject to peer ridicule, snaps, goes on a violent spree, then it's "Round up the usual suspects", why didn't teachers, the school, social workers, police, etc see "the warning signs."

It almost always comes down to parenting, or the lack of.
Kids who grow up with no love never learn how to love others.
Those who do not respect themselves will never respect others.
Throw the media into the mix with their "It's not your fault" and "others
owe you" and this is what we end up with.

Sadly there is no real answer, all subjective, I live here, I knew some of the kids, next street over in fact BUT why?? hell TJ doesn;t know himself, Mr Joyce, the prosecutor asked him, and he said he did NOT know why, no bullying, no fight, no drugs.as for "running away"?? He was chased down the hall and out the door by Mr Hall, the coach, he had fired his 10 shoots, last ones at the coach and the clip was empty??? was there another clip? have NO clue..................he admits to doing it, he is/ was a"nice"?? kid, did OK in school,,,,,,yes parents divorced and his dad and older brother are both quite the opposite of TJ.....no one here here "knows why"............but enough of TJ, our thoughts and our prayers are with the families of the deceased Danny, Russell and Demetrius, as well as the 'wounded', Joy and Nick......God bless them, and certainly pray for the kids who witnessed this tragedy, won't be the same around here for sometime, if ever..................

My point is that there is something about THIS tragedy that hurts me more than the other tragedies.

Maybe I'm a bit older and feel more for the victims.
Maybe because I once lived in Ohio.

Either way, my heart breaks real hard for the parents of these victims.

In Israel teachers are armed and trained for events such as these. You don't hear much about it, but then again you don't hear much about Israeli school shootings. One of the original school shooters is Luke Woodham from Pearl High School near Jackson, Ms. He was tried in Hattiesburg, Ms. after a venue change. I was part of the security in the courtroom during the trial. The testimony showed he was involved in some devil cult stuff and the killings started with his mother. The testimony also showed that his rampage was stopped by a teacher who went to his car and got his own personal weapon and stopped Woodham from shooting other innocent victims. You NEVER hear anything about this in the MSM. The PC gun free zones are an invitation to this type of behavior. Train and arm willing teachers and other school personnel and this stuff stops. These people are cowards just as Luke Woodham was when he peed his pants. My condolances to the latest victims.

Actually there was a lot on it after it happened. The teacher was fired for having a gun on campus. Not sure if he ever got his gun back. MSN covered that well.

The school probably didn't notice anything weird about the shooter because they were too busy going through all the kids lunches making sure they fit the requirements of the food police. And the kid that did this was an individual. Individuals don't matter anymore. Only groups do. People are devided into groups now by gender, race, country of origin, sexual orientation, and religion. And reminded constantly of those differences to engrain victim status at an early age. And certain groups get put to the front of the victim line. Then when it comes time in their lives to do what we'll all be doing this November, they'll make choices that THEY THINK furthers the cause of their particular victim group. This punk kid who did this just slipped by all these distractions.

You are so right about this. I remember after the Oklahoma City bombing they would show on the news practically complete directions on how to build a fertilizer bomb, complete with graphics, verbal instructions, and an explanation of how debri reacts as it explodes then comes back to fill the vaccuum it just created. Just crazy and irresponsible. And they just have to plaster these killer's faces all over the TV screens before the other networks do it! Then at a later date these talking eggheads on TV will sit down and discuss the need for more gun control. You know these mass killers are more thrilled sitting in jail watching themselves on TV than they are worried about prison or the death penalty. Can't make it on Survivor or the Jersey Shore? Just go kill a bunch of people and be an instant celebrity! And just wait for the network who'll give you the most money for a jailhouse interview or book deal.
