Got my Shield back ... Apex trigger , TFO night sights, KG gun kote =)

Can you post a pic of the side with the Caution label? Does this coating cover that label?

I called S&W and they said it would void the warranty on the slide. I'm still thinking about doing it. I really like it.

Well if thats the case then I'm not going to do it.

I'm gonna get those TFO sights though. :D

I exchanged emails with James yesterday. The sights are $99.50 which includes installation and return shipping. He said that the turnaround time is 24 hours.

That's really a good deal :)

Gun kote is more durable than duracoat. It is also thin so it doesn't effect tolerances inside. Cerakote is the most durable but it doesn't look as good as this stuff does. I have pistols in both KG gun kote and Cerakote....good stuff.

It is really super sharp. S&W should offer it like that!

**Update**

I installed the Apex DCAEK kit today. Was a very straight forward install. The only tools I needed was a punch and something to hit it with.

Factory trigger measured at 6.5lbs on my trigger gauge.

After I installed the hardened sear, sear spring and trigger return spring... The trigger breaks at exactly 4.5lbs. Also the reset is much more discernible with a solid click. There's still a pretty good amount of pretravel but the trigger is smooth and noticeably lighter/cleaner. I like it a lot. Will post my results when I hit the range. :)

Was the pretravel increased compared to stock?

Pre-travel seems to be the same as factory (if not just a hair further back), but the over travel feels slightly shorter and the reset "feels" shorter as well. I really like the nice click on reset now.

**Quick range report**

Took the Shield out to the range today. Tested it at 5, 7, 10 and 15 yards. This little pistol is very accurate at self defense distances.

Recoil is snappy but not unmanageable. I was able to put down respectable groups without trying extremely hard at each of the distances.

Chris Costa was nice enough to chat for a bit and wanted to try it out. He was impressed with the trigger and liked the gun as well. He put down a tight group quickly, without even breaking a sweat, lol.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Shield as a carry gun and I think the few mods that were done improved the pistol even more. The trigger is sweet!

Test target...Starting from top left was at 5 yards, dot below it was at 7 yards, then 10 and finally 15 yards on the large circle. The top right circle was Costa's group.

Looks good, I am looking at doing the Apex parts, cerakote, and a polished barrel. I have Trijicon HD's on order currently.

I have the Trijicon HDs on my G17 and really like the sight picture. What model number HDs did you order?

You know one could just buy a slide and have it done and the have both looks. Might be a future plan
