wOw !! They think the Shield is ugly ? At least it works :D

The pre-release hype about the Nano had me anxiously waiting to fondle one. After seeing it in person I wasn't as enthused as I thought I'd be. Luckily for me, my buddy purchased one and I was able to shoot it a little bit. I was very happy I didn't waste my money. He had it for a few weeks before selling it and purchasing a Solo. I'll stick with my Shield.

Schneider,

Schneider:

I know there are a lot of unhappy Nano owners. I contributed to a lot to those posts when I owned a Nano and shot 1,334 rounds and experienced 11 FTEs.

Sad there are Nano owners posting they are ok with one or two FTEs in a range session.

Amazing how the Nano performance bar has been lowered to the point it is tolerated by some to have FTEs especially with 115 grain ammo.

My frustration, as a former Nano owner, was even after sending my weapon back to Beretta for a chamber and feed ramp polish I still continued to experience a 2% FTE rate with Federal Champion and just under 1% FTE rate for WWB and S&B 115.

Beretta Administrators in my opinion did what they could early on addressing customer concerns with the Nano and they pretty much argued the line that weak ammo was the reason for the FTE trouble. The problem with that argument, however, is S&B 115 FMJ has a power factor of 143.75 which equates to the highest rated 115 grain ammo among all major brands and the FTE rate held steady just under 1% for that brand of ammo before and after Beretta polished my feed ramp and chamber.

In defense of the Nano I did shoot 130 rounds of NATO 124 grain with zero failures but shooting army ammo is like +P and it is not fun for target practice in a pocket size two finger gun.

It was also reported on the Beretta forum but to a lesser degree of Nano owners having issues with 124 grain and 147 grain ammo which was a concern to me especially if my Nano was my concealed carry weapon.

Confidence is everything and there just are too many unresolved question. Is it weak ammo, recoil spring too stiff, is the 40 caliber platform too much for 9 mm or is it the design or tension of the extractor the cause of the FTEs?

Delays releasing the 40 caliber and the lack of aftermarket accessories in my opinion are only adding to the PR challenge facing Beretta.

Too bad for Nano owners because the quality of the gun is excellent but a concealed weapon must go bang every time with all major brands of ammo if I am going to rely on it to protect my loved ones.

Beretta, I believe, needs to follow Kimber Solo and place ammo restrictions on the Nano if that is the root cause for the FTEs. If the problem is with the design or tension of the extractor they need to open a dialog with Nano owners and make it right if they are serious about saving their reputation especially in the ccw arena.

Right now there is silence from corporate Beretta and anyone involved in public relations knows when there are unresolved concerns with a defective product failure to admit there is a problem and provide the public with an action plan and updates to correct the problem will only lead to speculation by the public and ultimately the death of brand loyalty.

Amazing a 500 year old company chooses to ignore a very elementary principle to ensure brand loyalty.

Shame really, because I still want one...

But it needs to shoot when called upon.

Since many think the Glock is an ugly pistol and with many initially calling the Nano an ugly Mini Glock Clone, I find it amusing that some Beretta (and Nano) owners call the Shield ugly. :)

The only import from Italy I trust is their olive oil!

I have a Benelli Ultra Light 20 gauge and LOVE it. It has never failed with any load. As for the Kimber Solo, they have been a big disappointment too. Half of the Solos that have come through my LGS have been sent back to the factory several times and still unresolved.

I find it sexy when my Shield spits out spent shells my Nano skin deep beauty choked on.

My nano works perfectly. That post on the Beretta site is 90% comprised from 3 users, one of which doesn't own one.

Any mass produced $400 gun is going to have 1-2% that need work or replacement.

My brand new sd9 needed to be sent back for a new striker and a new front sight. It also fte'd twice in the first hundred rounds.

If you compare the number if posters that reported the nano a great gun, they good reports out number the bad, the unhappy just post over and over and over.

I suspect a few of them are trolls that enjoy stirring up the forum.

Also, Beretta's customer service can't compare to smith's, which magnfys the issues.

I remember the problems with the Beretta 32 frame cracks that they had.Sounds like they don't want to acknowledge the Nano problems either.

You got some proof of this claim?

Common sense?

Do you know of a 400 polymer that doesn't have pages of posts from folks understandable worried about problems they are having?

What'd you expect, a video of me in a lab coat explaining the results if my double blind controlled study? A reference to an article in Scientific American?

Say what they want about aesthetics .. lol .. at least the Shield SHOOTS RELIABLY.

Honestly .. pretty is as pretty does. If I want to carry a hammer, I'll go buy one from my nearest hardware store instead.

If you turn back time on the Beretta Forum beginning in November 2011 when the Nano was released and move forward there are multiple Nano owners posting problems.

Sad fact many of those original posters moved on. There are just a handful of the diehard original owners left posting.

I really liked the flat smooth design of the Nano and the internal slide lock was unique, but to date my Shield has nights sights the Nano is a notta for night sights. I have an extended magazine for my Shield Nano again no show for extended magazine. Shield released 40 caliber weeks after successful 9 mm launch. Nano not only is a no show for a 40 caliber but Ben Cook of Beretta is saying it is delayed until next year.

Why the delay on the 40 caliber? Why no accessories after 7 months after the release of the Nano?

These questions point to a bigger problem than the Nano FTE issue.

Generally, when companies announce product delays and continue extending release dates as deadlines approach like in the Nano case Spring 2012 to now 2013 for the 40 caliber it usually is code word for "Houston we Have a Problem".

No one wants to admit they have a less than stellar gun when they just put down $400. I know because I dropped down $429for my Nano.

We need to be honest, the Nano is not a Shield and the Beretta forum and S&W forum paint the obvious contrast and the internet world collectively more than validates the superior weapon.

Be thankful the Shield is made in America. We need all the good news we can get right now.

The Shield 9mm & .40 share the same platform. I am sure they use the same recoil spring. My 9mm ejects the case about 5' the .40 throws them 15'. The slide will interchange between frames. The barrel from the .40 will not fit in the 9mm slide.

I personally like the Glock type trigger better than the trigger in the Nano. I don't like the long DA revolver type trigger in the Nano.

I don't know how people can say the Nano is a Glock clone. The Nano trigger is nothing like the Glock, it is almost identical to the Kahr.

With the Apex DCAEK kit installed the trigger on the Shield it is smooth, short, crisp 5#, with a very short reset. Much better than the Nano.

I can also tell that the finish on the Shield slide is more durable, The Nano had wear on the slide in a couple of weeks from the holster. No wear on the Shield and It is in same type and material holster.LaTour Custom Holsters - Outdoor Gear/Sporting Goods - Plainfield, CT | Facebook

Lastly the recoil of the Shield 9mm is less then the recoil of the Nano 9mm.

So overall I will take the Shield over the Nano hands down even if it is slightly larger.

Good points.

I'm am mostly responding to annoyance of some of the silly posts on Beretta forums.

I personally bought my nano recently, and its been fine. So far its the autoloading j frame of my dreams :D

The shield was a bit big to pocket carry for me. Ymmv, I suppose.

600 rounds down range so far, 2 fte in the first 50.
